Russell Martin has spoken out about the clubs situation regards the rest of this transfer window. Despite there being a constant mantra of the club can’t afford players, hence Matt O’Riley not signing, the actual facts of the matter seem to be lost by many. Once again we turn to the horses mouth.

O’Riley signing for Celtic had nothing to do with the swans not having sufficient funds, dialogue had been underway for some time, and as we reported a bid was finalised to offer the player a transfer to Swansea. He chose Celtic for professional reasons. As long as there is negativity surrounding the swans transfer window dealings, then we will continue to examine and source the correct information regards the club.

Let’s have a look now, as we have to do at times at Martin’s comments about signings this window. There’s context in there for those willing to listen. “The window goes mental in the last week for some strange reason. It's football. Everyone leaves it really late with injuries etc. We'll just have to wait and see, but we're in a position now to go and get players in the positions that we want. We just don't want to bring them in for the sake of it, we'll try to get the right ones and sometimes that takes a bit of time." That seems pretty simple to us, the boss has stated there will be players in, and the club is in a position to do so. Not once is there a mention of insufficient funds, not once did he even mutter those words.

We know that board member Jake Silverstein was over in December, taking in the Southampton FA Cup game before returning to the USA. He had many meetings with Russell Martin and many players were spoken about. That was the same for Mark Allen and Julian Winter. Whilst certain quarters reported negativity the swans went about their business bringing in Hannes Wolf last week. As Martin has stated “It was tough, but we had loads of conversations when he was over and I'm sure he's relayed that back in America to the guys who we're in contact with weekly and daily. The bar was set and it hasn't changed very much. I think they're happy with the business we've done so far and I'm sure there'll be business to be done between now and the window closing”

Hannes Wolf was a loan signing Martin just couldn’t ignore. “I think we would have been crazy not to take him. We have him and Cyrus on loan which leaves three spaces. I don't know if we'll use all of them, but we have to be open to loan deals." That makes sense to us as the idea with Christie is for him to impress and then see if he can be made permanent in the summer when he is out of contract. That’s what we do know.

We do know permanent signings are much preferred as Martin admits “The priority for us is trying to do long-term permanent deals if we can, but that's dictated by finances and situations. We have to be open to loan signings, but even then, it's loan signings that may be a part of it next year” Confirming our thoughts on Christie, Martin said "People like Cyrus who is out of contract who will hopefully impress enough and likes us enough that something might come beyond that. So that's what we're trying to do, even with the loans”

That makes sense to us.

And we are certain now it makes sense to you, players are coming in and Swansea City are in a position to bring those players in. Not much to be negative about there. And everything to look forward to.
