Liam Cullen interview on his first weeks at Lincoln City Thursday, 27th Jan 2022 10:00 by The Stacey West & Swansea Independent Stacey West, the prime Lincoln City site has tracked down Liam Cullen and invested some time chatting to him. It seems Liam is enjoying his initial experiences at the Imps and living in the area. Here are his thoughts. Swansea Independent We featured Liam a few weeks before he left for Lincoln It seems though Liam has landed in Lincoln and has been impressive with his performances to date. Stacey West, the prime website for Lincoln City matters caught up with Liam, and here’s the result. He was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet as we lost 1-0 to Cambridge a week or so ago; only a top save from Dimitar Mitov stopped him from opening his account in the first 45 minutes of football. I’ve been lucky enough to chat to him this week ahead of the game against Burton on Saturday. In the full interview, which can be found in the club programme, he talks about his debut, the fans, and the weekend’s win against Plymouth, in which he linked up well with John Marquis. There’s no secret in the fact other clubs were looking at the striker, who is with us until the end of the season, and it might surprise you to hear that a couple of ex-Imps spoke highly of the club. “Out of all the clubs that I spoke to, Lincoln were the most keen and that was a big attraction,” he told this week. “I felt wanted, and that was a huge persuasion for me. Morgan (Whittaker) is here too, and I’ve got friends who used to be here, and nobody has a bad word to say about Lincoln; that’s everything from the football to the fans. It just felt like the right place to come. I’m really glad I chose to come here.” Liam Cullen in action for the imps When probed, Liam listed a number of ex-Imps, and current players, who helped influence his decision, including a couple who were on the periphery during their time here. “I knew Aaron Lewis, Jake Hesketh who I’m friends with, Bren (Johnson) was here, Regan’s here and I was at Wales with him, and there’s Morgan as well. They all spoke highly of the fans and the club.” It’s great to hear the likes of Jake Hesketh and Aaron Lewis talking highly of the club, despite their spells not working out. Of course, you’d expect Brennan Johnson to have good things to say about Lincoln; he advanced his career here with regular game time and is now a £20m prospect. It’s interesting, because two years ago I interviewed Joe Morrell who was playing for Wales under 21s at the time, and he has since stepped up. Last year, I spoke to Brennan who was in the same boat; could Liam make in a hat trick of Wales internationals? “If someone offered me the same route as Brennan over the last twelve to eighteen months, I’d take it, but I’m not looking long term,” he added when I put that to him. “I’m focused on playing well for Lincoln, getting them up the table and we’ll see what happens. I’m focused on the next six months, doing well and it’ll be beneficial for me and for Lincoln.” If you want to read the full interview, be sure to either grab a programme at the ground, or order yours now from Ignition Media here.
