Will enforced changes weaken Swansea City for the visit of Fulham ? Monday, 7th Mar 2022 09:00 by Keith Haynes & Felton Russell Martin has some decisions to make today and tomorrow before his sides sky bet championship game against Fulham. Loanee Cyrus Christie is definitely out as Fulham are his parent club, Korey Smith and Andy Fisher will both undergo tests this morning on injuries sustained in the 3-1 defeat of Coventry City on Saturday. When you look at the Swansea squad it’s glaringly apparent that it’s small and lacks depth. Christie’s replacement could be Joel Latibeaudiere and that’s an obvious selection, but if a formation change is thought out by Martin he does have Ryan Bennet able to slot in in a back four. It’s highly likely he will stick with Latibeaudiere but with ‘flexibility’ being the Swans Martin’s keyword he will keep us guessing. Smith is believe to be only fifty fifty despite what we may hear today, and Ben Hamer is a competent replacement for Fisher if needs be. Beyond those selections if Smith does fall down Olivier Ntcham will come in for him. That leaves the swans with the likes of Kyle Jospeh on the bench, a player who is yet to have any great impact on the first team this season. ![]() Korey Smith left the game injured on Saturday Hannes Wolf tested positive for Covid last week, his isolation and availability will become clearer today after a further test. It’s unlikely he will feature due to the timing of his first positive test and tomorrow nights game. Russell Martin will update matters late this afternoon or late morning tomorrow. It isn’t the best of situations for the swans to be in when facing the league leaders in Fulham. Aleksandar Mitrović Is scoring over a goal a game in the championship, after thirty two appearances he has thirty four goals to his name this season. Swansea City have scored thirty seven all season. That stat alone is frightening but when you consider Fulham have scored eighty four goals already this season this game is more of a must not lose than anything else. The positives this morning are that Peterborough pushed Fulham all the way two weeks ago losing only 2-1. Fulham did struggle to score more than one goal against Cardiff in another victory for the league leaders, and they did lose 2-1 at home to Huddersfield last week. On the flip side in three January games on the bounce Fulham scored nineteen goals, and if you include the fourth game it’s twenty two. The threat is most certainly there but this isn’t a side that dominates for large periods of any game, they have frailties, and can lose their cohesion in defence at times, not often, but it’s there. It’s a huge test for Swansea City, and a benchmark of not only where the squad is at this moment in time, but a test for those players who will most certainly be brought in.
