Joe Ledley calls Michael Obafemi a ‘shocking player’ Monday, 4th Apr 2022 17:08 by Keith Haynes & @Cornish67David We all know what Twitter is about, full of the usual bullying, and plenty of nonentities making all sorts of suggestions and threats that they can’t carry out. But when it comes from an ex footballer you really have to ask a few questions. And not only about the comment but about his general awareness of the effect he is having, not only on his credibility but his media potential in the future. Not the brightest is maybe the term. Joe Ledley decided to take to twitter after Michael Obafemi ‘shockingly’ scored two beautifully crafted goals against Ledley’s old team. It’s now been twenty five years of games with Cardiff winning only four of the nineteen fixtures between the two sides. The last time Cardiff scored three goals against the swans was in 1983, thirty nine years ago. And you have to go back to before England won the World Cup to see a scoreline that any Cardiff fan could be proud of. In the last nineteen games the swans have scored twenty seven goals, Cardiff just thirteen, less than a goal a game. This season the aggregate has been 7-0 to the swans. I can’t imagine what Joe Ledley would be saying if the situation was reversed. The real issue of course is the over hype of Cardiff City which for some reason Cardiff followers actually believe, and the press in Cardiff constantly put out throughout the year. And it always comes back to bite them. When a scoreline like Saturday’s comes around it really puts in to perspective the professionalism of those journalists and ex footballers, and really does bring them in to question. We now know Gareth Bale was none too happy about Steve Morison quoting him when he ‘allegedly’ said ‘Beat Swansea on Saturday’ Now he may well have, but the point again is the professionalism of Morison and once again the thought ( or lack of it ) he put in to that comment. And to think Cardiff City have entrusted this man with their immediate future with a new contract extension. In Ledley’s case as a recently retired footballer to actually take to Twitter and undermine a fellow professional, as an ex Welsh international, and tweet such nonsense as we see below is very odd indeed. ![]() Ledley quickly deleted the tweet after the responses he had ( unlike Michael Chopra’s ridiculous effort at banter yesterday ) But not before numerous people screenshot it, several, in fact over ten people sending it to us. It does make you think, Obafemi has been scoring goals for fun in the last six weeks. A clear result of his positive development under Russell Martin, and of his commitment to be the best player he can. Ledley really has made himself look rather silly on this occasion, a player who never really set the world alight within his profession. You would understand it if it came from a player of the stature of Ian Rush as an example, someone who has more than qualified his ability to score goals, as opposed to Ledley who … Did not. But when you have spent a lot of time being brainwashed that your team is better than it is, especially when it has been taken apart in two games in a season by your local rivals. But still you don’t see it. Not only that your club has a legacy of not a lot over twenty five years of Welsh derbies, but it’s evident for all to see. I suppose the likes of Ledley with clearly little knowledge at all of the superiority of Swansea over Cardiff, nor the facts or the detail - then calling an in form Championship striker ‘shocking’ is the best you can do. However, whatever you do don’t mention Celtic. School yard stuff from Ledley who clearly hasn’t aspired to a great deal since finishing up as a footballer. And whose six year period at Cardiff left a legacy of failure and underachievement. Sometimes you have to be humble and accept your lot, maybe a lot of that bike he talks got stuck in that beard of his as he also reckons Swansea ‘Aren’t that good’ Some would say he should concentrate on the team he couldn’t wait to leave when he let them down over all the time he was there. And leave the history makers alone. Hilarious. ![]() Photographs licensed from Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
