Swansea City v QPR : Latest injury news for the final game of the season
Friday, 6th May 2022 09:15 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City play their final game of the 2021/22 season at home to Queens Park Rangers tomorrow with a 12.30pm kick off at the swansea.com stadium.

There are injuries and it’s expected that Russell Martin will again take another look at Cameron Congreve after the academy product impressed in the game at Nottingham Forest last week. With Ben Cabango out injured, that could mean that full-back Ryan Manning slots into the backline with Hannes Wolf being deployed on the left flank. Eighteen-year-old Cameron Congreve was handed his first Championship start against Forest and was as impressive as he was strong on the ball. Surely a player who would improve over time within next seasons Swansea City squad ?

Yoann Barbet could return for QPR after missing the defeat to Sheffield United, with midfielder Sam Field forced to play in defence against the Blades as Rob Dickie is also out. Charlie Austin made his first start in over two months last week and scored his first goal since January so will hope to keep his place. Keiren Westwood could be fit enough to return in goal, but Mark Warburton may decide to stick with 20-year-old Murphy Mahoney. It’s manager Mark Warburton’s last game in charge of the R’s and he will, want to go out on a high. It looked like QPR were going to impress in the top six this season but that early form has deserted them.

The game at Loftus Road in January ended 0-0 and was another game the swans could have taken all the points. The championship isn’t facing any end of season dramas as such with promotion and relegation all confirmed. Middlesbrough and Millwall are both hopeful they can win their games with Luton and Sheffield United slipping up. So focus will be on their early kick off games.

Russell Martin is still looking ahead to the summer and players coming in with numerous set to leave, that is in some cases if they choose to. Ryan Bennett and Jay Fulton are in contract still and could sit tight even though both have been told to leave the club. Korey Smith and Yan Dhanda will leave out of contract with plenty more expected over the coming weeks.
