Swansea City : Christie wants to play in the Premier League REACTION
Sunday, 22nd May 2022 11:19 by Swans Indie Staff

Cyrus Christie has stated he wants a return to the premier league, and isn’t afraid to let his last opportunity to play there get in the way. If he gets his wish of course there will be no chance of his signing for Swansea City. And of course Nottingham Forest if they fail in their play off pursuit.

There seems to be a general expectation that Nottingham Forest only have to turn up in next weekends play off final at Wembley to win the game, and that goes for Christie as well. Having had a successful loan spell at the swans which has clearly boosted his career he has set his sights far higher than SA1.

Talking about his new options he said "I can reach the Premier League again. I want to get back there. It didn't go to plan last time but you can't be scared of going back there. I'm in a good place, physically and mentally doing really well. I feel fit, I'd love to be in somewhere and get a full pre-season. Now it's time to kick on. Fulham never saw the best of me — I was never really given a chance to show what I’m capable of. When I did get an opportunity, I was then back on the bench for maybe four or five games. It’s tough when you get no momentum”

That certainly looks like Christie has already made his mind up that Swansea isn’t for him, although let’s be honest as a younger player and when at Fulham the premier league hardly went well for him. Swans boss Russell Martin has spoken about Christie and has indicated there are financial issues regards his salary. "We are probably a little bit apart in terms of where he has been financially and where we are at," Martin said this week. I think the conversation will keep going on and it might change again. But we have to have other options apart from Cyrus as well."

Nottingham Forest, the club he spent time on loan with before he came to Swansea City were not that interested in him returning last summer. Christie spent a lot of time without any club interest before the swans stepped in around January time. He wasn’t playing at all for six months.

Here is what fans of the garibaldi think -

1.Phil says : Errrr.......taking in consideration his last performances with us as a full back who can't stop crosses or put over a decent cross......errr....no thanks.

2.RevD says : It would be a serious step in the wrong direction if we were to be interested in the likes of him.

3. ImaRed : Not premier standard! Couldn’t even get a game for Fulham for 2 seasons.

4. Captain Alvarado : This has to be a nothing more than a very poor rumour. Why on earth would we be remotely interested in Christie? You've only got to look at the players we currently have - loans or otherwise - to see the quality we are looking at. Christie is nowhere near our current player quality. And Prem? Having a larff mate, you're having a larff...

There are many more opinions and none are that favourable from a fans point of view. Even if Forest do make it to the premier league it’s hard to see them even remotely interested in Cyrus Christie. So what other options does he have in the top flight ? None that we can see, and if the salary issue continues we can’t see him at Swansea City next season either.

Fair play to Cyrus for setting his sights so high, but there really does need to be a degree of realism in his aspirations as well.
