Cyrus Christie makes his position clear and so do we
Wednesday, 1st Jun 2022 12:07 by @cornish67david

Cyrus Christie is chasing that last elusive contract and it seems regardless of where that may be he has dismissed a Swansea City return next season. And who can blame him ? This is possibly the most crucial and more importantly financial move for him in his career.

An outcast at Fulham, overlooked and ignored, Cyrus seemed to gather much self esteem from his time at Swansea. Giving him a launch pad at a late time in a players career he found his place again. And I think the majority of people were grateful. Now, with the usual outlandish rumours of the summer season he has options above the budget of the swans.

With a family and a short future left playing the game he needs to decide on his real focus for the next three years. Swansea City don’t come in to the equation. He has talked to the swans, he spoke with Russell Martin on numerous occasions whilst at the club, and has done so afterwards. But his desired but rumoured twenty thousand a week isn’t on the table, and never will be. It will be elsewhere for sure, maybe not at a club on these islands but abroad he will find that sort of money on offer.

That’s why he has said, “I’ve had a lot of contact over this summer with a few teams abroad. So we’ll see how this goes. I need to sit down and talk to my family and see what is best for them when those options come up and are concrete.”

It’s a sensible thing to do, and having taken a pay cut to play for Swansea for the last half of the season there cannot be any ill will towards him. He took the chance and it was a complete success for him. No matter where he goes you can only wish him the best, that’s football, that’s how it works.

And when you’ve earned respect in any walk of life you get it back, that’s the two way street we all travel on. Russell Martin has other options, just like Cyrus. We move on.
