Swansea City linked player joins Cardiff
Thursday, 9th Jun 2022 19:25 by Keith Haynes

The swans Bristol City connections have this time been thwarted in their latest attempt to sign a free transfer from the Ashton Gate club. Twenty seven year old Callum O’Dowda turned down Swansea’s offer and took a more generous contract with Cardiff City.

The three year deal keeps the Republic of Ireland international at Cardiff until 2025.

O’Dowda scored eight times for Bristol City in one hundred and sixty appearances over six years and has featured at under 21 and full international levels for the Republic. His grandfathers birthplace in Dundalk being the reason for his selection. With less than two hundred and fifty league appearances in his career the swans saw Callum O’Dowda as a player who could bolster the midfield next season. An ex team mate of Jamie Paterson, O’Dowda will meet with his old friend in the two South Wales derbies this coming season.

The swans like Cardiff have limited budgets this summer, and with no immediate interest in the current crop of top rated stars like Joel Piroe and Flynn Downes that will remain the case. As it stands there is also no news on the movements of Ryan Bennett and Jay Fulton who have both been told they can find new clubs.
