Southampton head up interest in Flynn Downes
Monday, 27th Jun 2022 11:06 by @Cornish67David

Southampton are in the driving seat today as the club best placed to turn their interest in Flynn Downes in to more than just an inquiry. Other clubs are also cited by Ian Mitchelmore at Wales On Line as making ‘tentative’ inquires but it’s the saints who hold the biggest interest.

As we have said already this morning clubs are looking to firm up their interest now July is nearly with us. The extra salary required to sign players in June has gone, so interest in Swansea players will increase. Downes is an athletic and tough tackling midfielder and the fact so many premier league clubs are interested is no surprise. The inquiry for Downes has come vis his agents at Wasserman, an agency the swans have done a lot of business with in the past. Based on that we can only assume the saints link is very real and could develop this week.

Swansea City we believe would accept starting bids in the region of six million pounds for Downes, however Russell Martin see’s him as a key player for the coming season. Plus a decent sell on clause remains in place for Ipswich Town. If a firm offer does arrive then it will be a tough decision, the club needs some funds in to assist in balancing the books plus it could easily open the door for Joe Allen.

More news as we get it.
