Oxford United manager - Swansea can fly up the table
Tuesday, 9th Aug 2022 13:58 by Keith Haynes

Karl Robinson comes from the same football school as Russell Martin, he has a vision of a passing game that excites and is different to the normal fayre served up by many clubs. The Oxford boss isn’t fooled by recent Swansea results, and knows the style of play will come good.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s game in the League Cup Robinson said of the swans “When a team is coached so well that sometimes takes longer to get going, because the rotations and fluidity take more time. We know that’s always going to be the way. I wouldn’t be surprised if you see Swansea flying up that table because of the players they’ve got and the way they’re coached.”

Yes of course it is early days but Russell Martin most certainly wouldn’t have felt the pressure he has been under this week as a manager before, despite what he portrays to the media. Robinson continued “You know his playing style and his philosophy and that’s one reason why I like it, because he stays consistent throughout the difficult times as well.” Well, that’s most certainly true, Martin won’t budge from his determination to impose his style on the club and regardless of the opposition he is considered stubborn in his approach.

Robinson has his own plans for tonight and has hinted a few surprises for U’s fans for this game. He has an exceptional win rate since 2018 at Oxford, nearly forty three percent. And that’s a near constant over his managerial career of over six hundred and fifty games. Not bad for a forty one year old. He made his name at MK Dons and his win rate there was almost the same, and with Oxford looking at returning to the championship this season, the swans should be warned. The U’s have been absent from the championship for some twenty three years and have seen periods of time in non league in recent times.

It’s not surprising the swans are not clear favourites to win this game because they are not, especially with the form they are in going in to this cup tie.

Teams will be announced at 6.45pm UK time.
