Nathanael Ogbeta doesn’t travel to Blackpool
Saturday, 13th Aug 2022 08:28 by Keith Haynes

If Nathanael Ogbeta thought he was back in amongst Russell Martin’s thoughts after a decent game against Oxford United last Tuesday night, that hope has been quickly dashed.

Ogbeta hasn’t travelled with the squad to their overnight pre match stop and wont feature in todays game against Blackpool. Having turned down numerous permanent and loan moves this summer to work hard at getting in to the Swansea City squad Nathanael must be slowly getting the message he isn’t wanted at Swansea.

A talent such as he is, with pace and strength it once again raises the question ‘Is Ogbeta paying the price for the way he was brought to Swansea ?” The question has to be asked in the light of Mark Allen, then sporting director, leaving the swans shortly after Ogbeta signed. Nathanael has had little opportunity if any of real note under Russell Martin, he comes across as an enthusiastic likeable young man, who is currently out in the cold at Swansea.

Nathanael Ogbeta will spend the weekend away from the squad, there are absolutely no disciplinary issues and no injury set backs. This is a signing who didn’t come cheap in January being left out in the cold for whatever reason. We’ve already heard from the manager stating “Unfortunately it’s football and we can only have sixteen outfield players in the squad on a match day, and he’s not one of them. I’ve been on to him he knows why he isn’t in the squad. It’s up to him he understands it’s up to him to become a part of the squad at some point and show us he can help us. Or, to assess his situation and see what opportunities lie elsewhere.”

And that now repeats itself again today, you can’t help but feel sorry for the young man, he has all the attributes for a decent championship defender. Unfortunately the current swans manager doesn’t think so, and that’s a crying shame.

Swansea City kick off against Blackpool this afternoon at 3pm. It is expected that around 1,600 Swansea City supporters will be in attendance hoping for the clubs first win of the season.
