Cutting costs with Ryan Bennett about to depart the club ? Monday, 29th Aug 2022 19:31 by @Cornish67David Swansea City defender Ryan Bennett, excluded from the squad for this season and evidently not even training within any environment on offer in Swansea, the thirty two year old now has four days to sort his club future out. Russell Martin for whatever reason hasn’t selected Bennett for months, be that his rumoured appearance fee contractual agreement or a clash with Russell Martin - it is fact whatever he does this week it has to be away from Swansea. Having played a huge part in his own move to the swans back in October 2020, and only a few months after playing premier league football for Leicester City he made his debut coincidentally against Coventry City. The sky blues a club amongst others who are rumoured to be offering Swansea loan terms for his signature. A move to Reading in June fell apart due to their inability to pay any form of transfer fee, and then to even come close to matching his wages made that impossible. Bennett has cleverly kept his own counsel during the last six months of his swans career and collected his rumoured eighty thousand pounds a month wages quietly with little else to do. In an attempt to broker almost any deal so Bennett can leave the club speculation is rife that Swansea City will pay sixty percent of his wages to leave on loan, others a fifty fifty split with whatever club can pay the asking amount. Attempts to secure a fee for him have failed miserably even in the last few days. Whatever has happened between Russell Martin and Ryan Bennet, be that a falling out that has brought about this current situation or a straight forward directive from the USA he is not to play another game for Swansea is anyones guess. But once again if it is the latter we see a frugal majority ownership clamping down on Swansea City expenditure. ![]() Ryan Bennett during happier times when he was on fonejacker It’s an almost certainty that Swansea will try and recoup at least some of his salary in a loan move this week, and any help with that will be seen as a positive be that half or whatever it is. However, we can tell anyone who cares tonight that any savings made on this transfer will not be going towards any financial assistance for Russell Martin to bring in players. The people who sanctioned the Ryan Bennett move two years back have pulled the plug on that idea completely despite whatever is reported in the coming days, even if that comes from the club itself. For us that means only one thing, a player or two has to be on their way out this week, and the only assets are valued ones, be that on the pitch or financially. But of a mess at the moment, isn’t it ? Photographs licensed from Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
