Brighton won’t go for Russell Martin and no approach has been made
Sunday, 11th Sep 2022 07:44 by @Cornish67David

Despite several reports to the contrary we have been told that no approach has been made to Swansea City by Brighton to talk to swans manager Russell Martin. Plus his buy out clause for him and his team would be in the millions to secure his services.

The actual reality is that Russell Martin is just a pawn in the betting game for Brighton, and with no approach or any likelihood of one those swans fans hoping for some business will be disappointed. FK Bodø/Glimt coach, Kjetil Knutsen seems to be topping the charts for Albion with 188 games under his belt to date. Plus he has just under a 57% win record at his current club. In his managerial career since 2009 he has overseen 388 games with a win record of just under a 55%.

Based on that who would you employ ?

And that’s the clear question here. Kjetil Knutsen Is way ahead of Martin and with Albion wanting to maintain their premier league standing Russell Martin is absolutely the wrong man for the job. Following Potter’s exit, Brighton deputy chairman Paul Barber said he was getting straight to work on finding a managerial successor, along with owner Tony Bloom and technical director David Weir. “Tony, David and I have already begun work to replace Graham and to secure the very best candidate for the club,” Barber revealed. I have no doubt there will be unprecedented interest in the job, not least because of the excellent work done by Graham but also because of the footballing infrastructure in place at our club. I am hugely disappointed to be losing our coaching team, particularly at this time, but I too would like to take this opportunity to thank Graham, Billy, Bjorn, Bruno, Ben and Kyle for their services and wish them well for the future. It has been a pleasure working with all of them.”

Bat the likes of the key contenders stats against Russell Martin and his record is pretty poor. Plus ninety two goals succeeded in just under a year is abysmal. It would be football suicide to appoint him. His win record is under 34%.

The list of contenders may well include Russell Martin but at this moment in time that’s where it ends. And someone as astute as Paul Barber definitely won’t have his head turned by such dramatic headlines that’s for sure. The following managers have all been linked Ange Postecoglou, Steve Cooper, Brendan Rodgers, Sean Dyche, Bo Svensson, Kieran McKenna, Kjetil Knutsen, Russell Martin and Nathan Jones. Let’s be honest here if Martin, Jones or McKenna do get appointed the swans will most certainly be playing Brighton next season in the championship. In fact there possibly more chance of the swans going up.
