Heavy week and intense training for Swansea City newbies
Monday, 12th Sep 2022 20:46 by Keith Haynes

Russell Martin has stated his players have had some exceptionally valuable time over the past nine days with intensive training and the new players brought in have had extra time to understand the swans ethos.

All three loanees will most certainly be fully aware of what it takes to get a spot in the Swansea City team. Armstrong Oko-Flex, Luke Cundle and Fin Stevens all experienced the swansea.com atmosphere last time around when the swans beat QPR 1-0. With the Birmingham City away game called off due to the death of the queen last week Swansea City have another opportunity to put three points on the board. Tomorrow night against Sheffield United will be a huge test for the swans. However, if they can put in a similar performance with the same outcome there won’t be any complaints here. Especially now that Saturday’s game against Hull City signifies another start to an international break.

The explanation of the inclusion of Steven Benda in goal against the R’s was sound as well. Martin stated. “I think he really just deserved this opportunity, Fish has been great, last season he was a big part of finishing strongly. It was gut instinct really, Steven deserved an opportunity, it was gut instinct really. It’s up to Fish to push Steven all the way now. Really pleased with what Steven has done since he came in” Based on that we can surely expect Benda to start tomorrow nights game.

With two home games coming up before the international break there won’t be a better time to reinforce the new confidence this Swansea side has. On the upcoming Sheffield United game Martin was pleased he has had some opportunity to spend time with his new recruits. “It’s been a brilliant spell, we finished the last game with the guys who had only had two training sessions really. And those were the day before the match. It’s been a heavy week for some to train at the intensity our guys train at and get used to that. So, it’s been brilliant, a brilliant week of training. Stoke and QPR were two really good performances from the team. We’ve built up a bit of momentum”

There will be more news on Michael Obafemi in the morning.
