Oli Cooper not selected as back up midfielder by Rob Page
Thursday, 10th Nov 2022 14:25 by Swansea Independent

Despite a belief that Ollie Cooper would get one of the midfield back up slots for the World Cup that has not happened. There has been a clamour for Cooper to be included in the Cymru squad let alone as a back up. Neither has happened, and once again eyebrows are raised from the west of Wales.

Luke Harris of Fulham is only seventeen, has not played for Wales but has had one call up. He has never featured for any Wales team at any level above under 19. He is included now as a replacement and will travel. Jordan James who plays for Birmingham City is eighteen, and he too received a call up in September. He will travel with Harris. Page commented this afternoon. "As much as the World Cup is upon us, I want to expose Luke and JJ to the environment, get them training, and see how they conduct themselves. So in March or in the future when the senior boys decide they're not going to play for Wales anymore, it won't be too much of a culture shock and the change won't be so severe. I've been really impressed by the pair of them. They're not going to be in the 26 but for them to travel with the squad, see how they conduct themselves on and off the pitch, is going to be massive for us moving forward."

This season Harris has played five minutes of football in total and never played for Wales at any level and James has thirty three minutes of football over the past two months. James has featured for England U20 and has a Wales appearance at under 18. It’s hard sometimes to work out where this all is really coming from. But we can guess.
