Morgan Whittaker asks to speak with Russell Martin over rumoured recall

Sources are indicating that Russell Martin is open to talking with Morgan Whittaker over his potential recall to Swansea City. We understand that this particular talk is likely to happen imminently. Cleverly loaning out Morgan to Plymouth Argyle where he has flourished under boss Steven Schumaker, Martin has some gold dust forming down in Devon.

Scoring nine goals with multiple assists ( two more against MK Dons in his last match ) indicates the swans have a player at the height of his game, albeit not playing for them. And crucially at a lower level. Russell Martin is a progressive and open manager who gives his all to his players but expects the same back at every level. What we do know is that Morgan Whittaker wants to stay with Plymouth for the remainder of the season, and you can’t blame him, he is definitely hot property.

What Russell Martin will want is a committed striker / forward who can add value to the swans if he is recalled, he won’t want a sulking young man adding to the woes of late. There’s been enough of them. There’s nothing to say of course Morgan would react like that to a recall, he has to look at his future as well. He could enter in to the championship next season with Plymouth wanting him on their shopping list. And if he did stay at the pilgrims that could well happen, not least with other suitors looking on.

And let’s be honest he could well return to Swansea and forward his career ten fold.

The positives of a recall are his involvement in a side who Russell Martin believes can still challenge for the championship play offs - as we do here at Swansea Independent. Other opinions are available and bar a few I’ve yet to read anything that carefully digests the current state of play for Russell Martin that delivers anything tangible and readable. Most of it is counter productive, abusive and in some cases libellous trash. Other opinions as I’ve said are available. But they really do have to be a little more focussed.

Any conversations the swans boss holds with Morgan we know will be well thought out, sympathetic and hold only one thing at heart, Swansea City FC. Let’s hope those contacts are held either today or tomorrow and even then if a decision takes a little longer then at least Martin has the full facts.
