What use are these Swansea City players to the supporters of the club ?
Sunday, 22nd Jan 2023 10:09 by Keith Haynes

Swansea City have three players who many supporters hope never play for the club again. The latest is Morgan Whittaker to join Michael Obafemi and Jamie Paterson. We will remain as professional as we can regards these three. Suffice to say they are unprofessional and are of no value to Swansea City and the travelling thousands who continue to support our club.

Talking on the Morgan Whittaker situation, we genuinely believe contact was made between Glasgow Rangers and Swansea City yesterday morning, what that contact was and by whom is yet to be deciphered. Our guess is his agent banging on in his ear when they heard he was in the squad and advised him that the Rangers deal isn’t dead ( it isn’t of course ) That constant disruption caused to Whittaker by his agent at world in motion is hardly doing the whole scenario any good. As Russell Martin explained post match yesterday.

On the transfer window Martin said. “It just creates unwanted noise, an unwanted distraction really for a lot of players, we’ve made a really constant decision to not let it stress us out really, it has its ways of working itself out in the end. Everything takes so much longer than it should because there’s so much ego at play and everyone wants the best deal. Yes, it’s carnage, the only ones that really benefit are the agents and the clubs with financial power “

Ego, there’s the issue with Morgan, he doesn’t want to play for Swansea City because his mind isn’t right. Try telling us it isn’t it’s all about him, and what he can have, when he wants it because he’s seen Michael Obafemi go the same way and Jamie Paterson. What value are these people to any industry or place of work ? And we use the term work loosely.

More disappointment for Russell Martin

It’s hard to imagine how Russell Martin and his coaching staff feel especially now and over the next nine days or so. They invest their time and ability in to the squad, they develop and nurture players be that away from the city or within, and like in life generally the selfish uncaring side of people is revealed. Football has gone too far the wrong way, like many things in life these days. It concentrates on the wrong things at the right time.

On the mini break ahead Martin revealed. “I think it will help in terms of the players we have who are uncertain about their futures at the minute, it will help settle things down. I received a text from Morgan and we had a quick chat amd he wasn’t in the ‘right frame of mind’ to be in the squad, to travel with the squad, for a number of reasons, his situation hasn’t changed” The manager is right there of course but the constant intervention in Morgan’s life by his agent, and it’s constant - has scuppered any hope of the player gaining any respect from the Swansea City support over this.

Footballers are looked after, they rarely have to make a decision of any note other than when to go to the toilet, and they reach for the help of others when they can’t work out what’s going on.it’s not the same in all cases, but in many there’s that self motivation monster always ready to kick in. They really don’t care about the club that pays them.

This is Swansea City not Morgan Whittaker or anyone else

Morgan Whittaker a prime example yesterday. Maybe he isn't able to work out that the inclusion of him in the match day squad was actually going to benefit him ? For us a decisive move to force Glasgow Rangers hand, but the advice he got was not to play. And as Russell Martin stated if he is at Swansea post January getting back in to the squad could prove difficult. And we hope so too.

And all this whilst out of contract players in the summer continue to put in one hundred percent effort for Swansea City. They could do the same but their professionalism has shone through this month. Both Ryan Manning and Joel Latibeaudiere have continued to play and earn their salary proving there’s life in certain players grey matter, and a dedication to their club and profession. Maybe we shouldn’t compare Whittaker, Paterson and Obafemi to them ? Maybe it’s an insult to Manning and Latibeaudiere to mutter their names in the same sentence ?

Whatever anyone thinks on this matter, thankfully the swans now can turn their attention to getting those players back on the training pitch, aiming towards a more calmer February and hopefully without these players constantly putting themselves before everything else. It’s our club, and if they don’t respect it or the jersey that comes with it they deserve nothing but disdain. And to think as well in the bigger football picture they are nothing, mere scratches on the surface of a game that continues to disappoint and drive the real fans away.
