Russell Martin reassured he has the full support of the majority owners at Swansea City
Sunday, 5th Mar 2023 09:35 by @Cornish67David

It’s been another busy week for Russell Martin after first the 1-1 draw with Rotherham on Monday and then the 1-0 loss away at Luton yesterday. The Swans head coach has made reference to contact with the majority owners and his immediate future.

Having made the comment he has spoken to ‘all’ the owners this week we made a few calls to see who that was. It’s clear Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien spring to mind immediately. they are after all the main movers at the club. What we know is there have been discussions of late at the request of Russell Martin, and overall they seem to suggest that Russell Martin and his staff will continue in their roles for the foreseeable future.

Martin said yesterday, "I spoke to all the owners in the last two days and they've been great and they understand the context. So if you're talking about pressure, it's only the same pressure as everyone else. The pressure to be your best. The pressure to try and get the most out of your players. That wasn't pressure. That was care for the team, and that was feeding off the players' energy. It just didn't need to be two red cards to be honest. It happens every week I think on the touchline. It just happened today at Luton where the touchlines are incredibly close to the pitch and incredibly close together”

The good news for Russell Martin at least is he will have another opportunity to pit his wits against another young manager when the Swans take on Middlesbrough next Saturday at the Swansea.com stadium ( kick off 3pm ) Michael Carrick has had an impressive start to his managerial career and his side won again yesterday 5-0 against Reading. So, it’s another week of preparation for Russell Martin and his coaching team as they go in search of a win, in fact any win with some very demanding games coming up. It doesn’t get any easier after Boro as the next fixture that follows is Millwall away, followed by Bristol City at home before the international break.

Footnote : Abuse continues at Kenilworth Road
There is always animosity and a nasty edge when these two teams meet, the ramshackle old ground that is Kenilworth Road is close to the pitch and you can hear every word shouted, and of course you can see every action from spectators facing the TV cameras. That was noticeable yesterday as grown men, some accompanied by young children hurled abuse at Matt Sorinola in the first half. You don’t need to be a skilled lip reader to see what was being shouted. Appalling behaviour in front of children that continues to go unchecked at this particular ground. And not for the first time. Rhys Williams was racially abused at Luton whilst on loan at the Swans from Liverpool, it all adds up to a nasty little place for opposition teams to visit and have to put up with disgusting abuse. Yes, it happens at many grounds but surely it can’t continue to go unchecked with young children hearing these disgusting ‘parents’ and ‘guardians’ shout some of the most horrendous insults they seem to get away with, week after week.

Yes he has the backing of the board as they are not willing to sack him if they are not willing to invest in the club I dought very much if they would find the money to pay RM off I do not hold much hope for next season if things stay the same as they are now within the club it is allright employing backroom staff but it is on the playing field the Swans needed strengthening not got a clue them owners of our club.
