Swansea City must leave everything on the pitch today, no regrets !
Sunday, 19th Mar 2023 08:00 by Swansea Independent Staff

The last time we as Swans fans will recall a battle cry of this nature should take many of us back to the day before the 3-0 demolition of Cardiff City, yes, Wayne Routledge and all, many will recall it. This is 2023, and that was 2014 when one Garry Monk managed his first game as Swansea City head coach.

This fixture today, as that one was is a must win.

No matter what it takes, no matter what has to be done, be that going down to nine men and fighting like nothing else matters, this game has to be won. To put aside the doom and gloom of relegation is one point, but surely more importantly it is to get this superb Swansea City support back on side before the international break. The Jack Army matter the most.

Swansea City fans know how much of an edge they can give their side on any match day, home and away. These last three months need punching to the floor and stamping down so we can feel some real pride at last. No matter what certain quarters bring to every match day, be that the gloom and doom or the ‘couldn’t care lessers’ this is no time for shirking out. The stadium this afternoon needs to be a resounding echo of one hundred percent support for Swansea City.

This is our club we are told, well let’s make it so.

We rose from the discarded ashes of greed back in 2002, and if any club can do that then the Swans faithful can easily scream their side to victory today surely ? Twenty one years ago it may have been when the charge started. That Hull City victory came about a year later. No club should have to deal with that tension, especially one as big as ours. Today we are nowhere near that position of incredulous and unbelievable abandonment. For sure had the Swans gone down we may not have ever seen a professional club in the city again. And most certainly no bigger club either before or after and to this day would have seen that fate. Half of the under thirties at the game today would never have seen such a thrilling start to the twenty first century had this club fallen.

So, todays game is a breeze by comparison, the hearts must be on sleeves, and the passion has to come from everywhere - right across our home turf. We need to see one hundred percent bravery, and not in our passing or our decision making but in our strength and hwyl in every challenge and moment of combat. Knees up Andy Fisher in the challenge, come out screaming and put the fear of hades in to these ‘cross the bridge pretenders’ They come with nothing more than a meek and half sold out support born more out of fear and loathing than anything else.

They will choose to stay at home because they know deep down this is not their day.

Everything must be won this afternoon, bodies may well break and certain Swansea players may well find themselves in situations that they have never experienced before. If that’s the case then so be it. This is not a club that stays down for long, we have seen it time and time again. We need to resurrect this belief, we can bring about a huge shift in opinion about our club. If you hold that season ticket in your hand this morning and there’s no reason for you not to be at the game then go there. Be a part of what we all know is true. Despite the good times, and there have been many this century none of that matters today. Get up off your feet and scream for our team. Jacks across the globe will be with you, in mind and in spirit - as much as those who witnessed the past but who are no longer with us. They played their part before. That’s why we are here.

No more Mr nice guy Russell Martin, and no more looking for the reasons why our team lost. This will be our day and the start of something we all know is possible. Stick that on the dressing room wall Russ, and let’s get fervently and bloody angry.

COME ON THE SWANS !
