Old school centre forward in very young boots for Swansea City
Thursday, 23rd Mar 2023 11:05 by Liam Walters (3)

He is knocking in the goals for his club and country and got two more yesterday in a 4-2 win over Scotland, his name is Iwan Morgan and his opening goal for his country last night was something to behold. If you haven’t heard of this young man until now, then you most certainly will,do from here on in.

Iwan has sprung to notice this year with goals in abundance, even for the under 21 side in the Premier League Cup in January against Burnley - and for the under 18 side against Nottingham Forest. The young man certainly knows where the net is scoring five in one game at Colchester in November last year. Last night at Rodney Parade it was two goals in the opening 10 minutes for attacking duo Iwan Morgan and Gabriele Biancheri, followed by a second half strike for Iwan Morgan and a late own-goal earned victory for Craig Knight’s side. A late Bobby McLuckie brace was not enough to inspire a comeback for Scotland.

Speaking on his step up the the development side recently seventeen year old Iwan said. “You’ve always got to be switched on, because the moment you switch off something can happen in an instant. You’ve always got to give 100%. It’s good that the coaches and staff let you know if you’re not up to standard in certain moments, that’s part of my development and learning. If they’re demanding more of me, I’ve got to demand more of myself. As a young kid amongst the squad, I just want to keep improving what I’m doing and give it my all whether I come off the bench for 10 minutes or play the whole game. Whenever I get a chance, I’m going to give it my all.”

Iwan is a first season scholar at the Swans and there’s a very bright future ahead for the Swans product. When at the club Byron Anthony, Under 18 coach said. “When we talk about grit and determination, Iwan has that in abundance. He offers something different. He’s an old-fashioned number nine, but he also works his socks off without the ball. He wants to win and wears his heart on his sleeve. He understands that things aren’t always going to go his way, but he doesn’t give up and that promotes belief for the rest of the squad”

Averaging a goal a game last year Iwan continues to press forwards with hatrick and game changing performances for his club and now has seven goals in three internationals for the under 17 side. The Swans academy continues to provide real prospects for the first team and Iwan is definitely proof of that.
