Swansea City’s unbeaten run solidifies the understanding at the Swansea.Com

Swansea City once again demolished their opponents in one half of a game, and last night it was Preston North End’s turn. With people asking the question about the quality of the opposition during this recent run Preston would provide the answer. The Lillywhites are looking for points for promotion via the top six and have a good season behind them.

The run for Russell Martin started when his side beat Bristol City 2-0 just before the international break in March. Thereafter a 3-2 win against Cardiff City away, a draw at home v Coventry City, an away win ( 2-0 ) against Wigan Athletic, home win v Huddersfield Town (1-0) and now last nights impressive 4-2 win over Preston have followed.

Within this impressive run the Swans have scored twelve goals in six games, and conceded four. There have been four clean sheets for the much maligned Andy Fisher and a return to goal scoring form for Joel Piroe. He even chipped in with an assist last night for Joe Allen. Here are the basic stats from last nights game.

The overall dominance by the Swans, especially in the first half won this game. The intricate passing of the home side, and effective attacking through the middle overwhelmed the visitors. The Swans also attacked via the left hand side of the pitch which forced Preston to launch a rear guard action and disregard their high press.

Last season the Swans would have drawn or lost this game. (4-4 v Reading ) What we are now witnessing albeit a bit too late in the season is a tough and uncompromising Swansea City that understands exactly what their manager and coaches require. The quality of the opposition is a poor viewpoint. All of the wins bar Preston and Bristol City came against teams scrapping for their championship lives. It is ridiculous to use that as a signal to identify why Swansea won those games. Coventry City, albeit a draw are another side right in the promotion mix as are Preston. Bristol City are mid table. The Swans have beaten a plethora of sides of late with something to play for in the main. Now Saturdays game at Norwich takes on a bigger challenge as the Canaries are slipping in the table and desperate to ignite their own positive finish to the season.

Regardless of what a few doom mongers say the latest form in the championship shows the Swans on top, maybe they should be more on top instead of where they are ?

We will continue to build up to the end of the season with Swansea City’s penultimate away game on Saturday against Norwich City.
