Chris Davies quandary with Spurs and Swansea after his signature Monday, 12th Jun 2023 08:00 by Keith Haynes Ex Leicester City coach Chris Davies is a wanted man this morning with Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City wanting his services this summer. Davies was at Swansea with Brendan Rodgers during those glory days when the Swans were literally ‘Walking on Sunshine’ Now with speculation rife that Davies is now a hot Swansea target he has a decision to make. Davies has been spoken to regards a role at Spurs as a coach or number two to Ange Postecoglou who was recently appointed at the club for the new premier league season. Davies is keen to consider the role which comes with a far bigger salary than Swansea City can offer, but let’s be honest even with Ange Postecoglou as the boss one Daniel Levy, current Spurs Chairman isn’t too far away. Davies would be seen as an excellent choice for Swansea and one who can bring with him some quality insight and experience from his very long time in the game. He has been at Swansea before, as has Ryland Morgans a good friend of Davies who is also rumoured to be in with a shout of a role at the Swans. However, today we hear Davies is keen to review all his current offers, and there isn’t just two. That aside his current offers don’t include the opportunity to become your own man as he would be at Swansea City. He would be making the decisions as the main decision maker and for the first time in his career leading from the front as a manager/ coach. This is his dilemma really, he has staring at him a role at a club that could well feature in the running for promotion next season, as opposed to his safe zone of coaching, albeit a tremendously successful time in his life. Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester are just a few of his success stories. If Davies wishes to make the step up we understand he could well be the next Swans manager. With that he will be granted a free rein to appoint his own staff at the Swansea.Com Stadium. What he has on offer to spend will very much depend on the players moving out, and the cash value they bring in, and of course future investment. The Swans squad is looking very thin so Davies will want some genuine promises on what he can do if he considers the role. Nothing is cast in stone as yet, but what we do know is Chris Davies is very keen to meet and determine his brief if he was to become Swansea City manager. Nothing really official has taken place as Russell Martin’s departure from the Swans to Southampton is taking some time, but we understand tentative talks have taken place. The issue for the Swans is the cash Spurs can put on the table, especially as Ange Postecoglou has made it known Davies is a coach he wants with him in London. It’s now very much a case of what Davies see’s as the best challenge ahead. Can the majority ownership convince him and encourage him to become Martin’s successor with a tough and challenging role at Swansea, or does he take the carrot dangled by Spurs ? We reckon the next seven days will give us the answer. Whatever that is Davies isn’t the only candidate, as it stands he may well be just edging one other possibility out, but it seems it’s now all very much down to him. Swans fans just want it all concluded, but it’s not even close yet. ![]() Photograph licensed by Reuters Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
