Reports yesterday of a ‘firm’ offer for Joel Piroe from Leicester City seem slightly wide of the mark, however the Foxes have been following the Swans forward since December 2021. Swansea Independent broke the initial interest in Piroe by the Foxes back then in a substantial report on who at the club at the time were monitoring him.

It was odd at the time because Leicester Live with numerous others were quick to report the interest in Piroe way back then. Fair play they did acknowledge this site as being the first to break the news, but then sort of displayed some poor judgement thereafter. They asked Piroe if he was going to Leicester City ! That did make us smile. As if Joel would know what the head of technical scouting is working on at a club that Joel has nothing to do with. That was strange. But here it is.

With the sale of James Maddison now confirmed to Spurs and the Foxes determined to return to the Premier League this would be seen as a decent move for Joel. Leicester have plenty of parachute money in the bank and of course have additional money from Maddison’s sale. There is a slight fly in the ointment though, Piroe wants to play in the Premier League and would prefer a move to the top flight. His father who manages Joel is a very level headed person and will most certainly not want his son jumping at the first opportunity, That means unless Leicester have some real money on the table for the Swans and Joel it won’t happen quickly.

Of course, Joel has another year to run on his contract and has the option of playing out his time at Swansea and then seeking a big signing on fee next June in twelve months time. We should add if the Swans have a superb season and gain promotion then who is to say he wouldn’t prefer to stay at Swansea in the top flight ? Pie in the sky maybe ? But Joel has been a complete success in west Wales, it has made him who he is today. I’m certain Swans fans would love that long shot scenario.

Like everything in football sometimes they do take a while, it most certainly would have been premature eighteen months ago to move for Joel. However, Leicester City most certainly have kept their powder dry on this one.
