Latest news on the Swans search for new players with three linked
Sunday, 2nd Jul 2023 11:38 by @Cornish67David

It looks like the Swans are after some youth as well as experience this summer. Lewis Fiorini, the Manchester City midfielder is of interest to several clubs, and a forerunner for his signature are Swansea City. Couple that with a keeper linked and it’s clear and obvious ( pun ) the club are not hanging around when it comes to doing business.

The twenty one year old Citizens product has already experienced two successful loans at NAC Breda and Lincoln City and was at Blackpool last season. It seems a fourth loan is on the cards for Fiorini who has played for England under sixteen but seems to now have selected Scotland as his first choice over the last four years or so. He weighs in with goals as well, and as a central midfielder it could well be he isn’t so much a replacement for players lost in that position but more of a utility midfielder as he has displayed for his country. Fiorini loves being on the front foot and fits the profile of a more upbeat, high octane game plan that Duff prefers.

Another loan possibility is Bailey Peacock-Farrell the twenty six year old Burnley keeper. A product of the Middlesbrough youth system he preferred Leeds United and was eventually rewarded with a three year contract in 2017. Always seen as back up at Elland Road he did play thirty nine games for Leeds under Bielsa. However Bielsa did admit that had his first choice keeper Kiko Cassila been available Peacock-Farrell would not have been selected for first team duty. His move to Burnley didn’t improve his chances of first team action, but a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday was a success. He is the only Owls keeper to start a season with five clean sheets. Bailey Peacock-Farrell Is now looking for first team selection, and with Steven Benda still not ‘fully fit’ and Andy Fisher left at the Swans by Russell Martin it’s likely a signing in this position is likely. The Northern Ireland international is known to Michael Duff which could give the Swans the edge in any loan move.

Ellis Simms provoked a trite response from Duff yesterday when asked of the player and his links to the Swans. Rumours of him being in Swansea on Friday to speak with Andrew Coleman are questionable. However, The Swans Chairman having been in Spain for a few days with the Swans on their pre season training camp returned and was in the city when the alleged sighting of Simms was reported. Regardless, it really doesn’t matter if Simms was in Swansea or Berlin the striker has numerous suitors and is now being talked about in player swap deals as well as a permanent move to a Championship club. He had a successful first half of last season at Sunderland on loan scoring seven goals but was recalled to Everton in January. He played very much a bit part for the Toffee’s last season after that scoring one goal.

The Swans if nothing else are busy, and good quality players are being linked. Much more will come and as ever we will examine the information and give you as much context on the players concerned. And of course will keep you fully updated all summer.
