Tuesday, 11th Jul 2023 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Swansea City defender Nathan Wood has been linked to Brentford overnight after a very decent season at the Swansea.Com Stadium. It doesn’t come as a surprise that the highly rated Middlesbrough born player is causing a stir with premier league clubs. The son of Dean Gordon who enjoyed a long career in professional football, Nathan possesses the same attributes as his father.

Wood signed for Swansea last summer with Russell Martin exceptionally keen to get him to move to South Wales. Identifying his athleticism and pace as key features of his game. Before moving to the Swans, Nathan had a very moderate start in football but it was last season that really got him noticed. He still holds the youngest appearance record for his hometown club at sixteen years, and at thirteen was well below fourteen seconds for a hundred metres.

Having played at every level for England bar the first team, Wood is now of interest to Brentford, however their forthcoming ‘rumoured’ bid of around four million pounds won’t be acceptable to Swansea we understand. The club have identified Wood as a key component to Michael Duff’s inaugural season as Swans boss, so any bids of that figure just won’t rub. Owner of the Bee’s Matthew Benham who also owns FC Midtjylland in Denmark has to ensure he keeps his eye on this one as this will alert other clubs as to the interest in Nathan.

Albeit these are early days regards this latest news Brentford do complete transfers extremely quickly and manager Thomas Frank has an exceptionally good relationship with Benham. If this link has the legs we think it has the Swans could be faced with some tough negotiations ahead with the ex vice President of the Bank of America who is a lifelong Brentford fan as well as their owner.
