Swans glide to another five goal win, this time v Newport County
Tuesday, 18th Jul 2023 16:20 by Swansea Independent

Assistant head coach Alan Sheehan was delighted with another Swansea City win making it ten goals in two games albeit against lower placed opposition at Fairwood. The hastily arranged friendly saw Josh Thomas again weigh in with two more goals.

Talking after the game Sheehan said. “Now is a good time to get into winning habits and the habit of getting clean sheets. I think it’s important we do these things properly as we work through pre-season because we want to be an aggressive team, in and out of possession”

The Swans were slow to start in awful weather but maintained the aggressive elements referenced by Sheehan as the second half wore on. All the goals comes in the second half which saw the home side more ruthless in front of goal. Sheehan added. “Josh Thomas has done really well, he keeps popping up in the right areas, he likes to run in behind and he is an aggressive player” It seems Thomas has found the transition to the first team fairly easy to make, and that’s great news with the Swansea squad needing new blood this summer. His second goal was a delight with a sharp but Coll turn and finish.

Goals from Joel Piroe, Josh Key and Ben Cabango piled on the misery for County.

New two and a half million pound signing Jerry Yates played but saw no return for his efforts. Liam Walsh again didn’t line up Swansea. Harry Darling and Cabango could have made it more but both struck the frame of the goal.

Overall the Swans have performed well in an unbeaten stretch of four behind closed door games defeating Haverfordwest County 2-0, drawing with Brandy IF, and then two exceptional displays against Swindon on the weekend and now today. This week see’s an away friendly on Friday evening at Oxford United and the the under 21 side take on Carmarthen on Saturday. The former being on Swans TV, the latter on S4C we understand.

You can watch the highlights below.

After that it’s games against Reading away, and then Bristol Rivers at home before the business starts all over again on August 5th at home to Birmingham City.
