Wales and the big night of football ahead (pictures)
Thursday, 21st Mar 2024 18:16 by Swansea Independent

Wales will face Finland tonight with thousands of fans from across both countries in Cardiff for this must win game.

The event is sold out and tickets are being offered for big bucks around the city centre as the pubs are full with supporters of both countries. The Fins even did the fans walk towards the city down Penarth Road this afternoon.

As the pubs filled, plenty of Swansea fans gathered to support their country.

‘The buzz around the place is incredible’ said Swans fan Ian Thomas from Pencoed. ‘I’ve never had a feeling like this and I follow Wales to most internationals’ That seems to be the general opinion from Swansea fans at this evenings game. Renowned for making the longer and harder journeys the hardcore Wales follower will be happy with the opportunity go to Germany in the summer and participate in the Euros.

Both Wales and Finland followers have mingled with little bother today, many travelling together from outlying areas by bus and train. The hope for both is a win and a home tie against the victors of Poland and Estonia next Tuesday.

Wales has had numerous withdrawals but can still field an eleven which will win this game tonight.

Our prediction is.
Ward; Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Roberts, James, Ampadu, Williams; Wilson, Moore, Johnson

The Swans Liam Cullen (below) will be hoping to get in the pitch for his country, a player who took the game to Cardiff City last Saturday ripping the heart of the Bluebirds. Swans academy graduates are littering the side as well, Ben Davies will surely lead the side with Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts in defence and another acadmey player Dan James of Leeds United in form and up front.

The injuries to Cabango, Low, Burns, Morrell, Bradshaw and withdrawal of Tom Lockyer shouldn’t affect the national side too much. We believe there’s enough there to win this game. Danny Ward is the favourite to start in between the posts from a selection of four goalkeepers, including Wayne Hennessey, Adam Davies and Tom King, all of whom have failed to play a minute of league football this season.

More news later.
