Wales go to the Euro play off final in absolute style
Friday, 22nd Mar 2024 08:00 by Swansea Independent

It was as predicted with the Swansea four leading the charge to a home tie against Poland on Tuesday night. A spectacular performance which saw man for man the home side destroying Finland at every turn.

Despite going 2-0 ahead Wales conceded with seconds to go in the first half. That put a real concern in amongst the crowd as everyone felt this great start would set up a home game on Tuesday night against Poland. We had several Indy collaborators at the game, and thanks to them we have some very decent pictures from this very successful night. A David Brooks opener was followed by a superb free kick routine between Harry Wilson and Neco Williams which ended in him bending in a super shot from outside the area.

Right at the end of the half Pukki got a goal back for Finland breaking the Wales defence to slot away a well taken goal. Really all it needed was a Wales response early in the second half, and that was just what we got. Despite some spurious refereeing decision Wales went further ahead when Ethan Ampadu headed across goal for an easy chance for Brennan Johnson to make it 3-1. It was then a relentless attack on the away sides goal with Ben Davies having a goal ruled out, and then sub Dan James making it four late on.

Page (above) was delighted at the end of the game which when reflected upon was potentially one of Wales best victories since Page took over from Ryan Giggs.

Haverfordwest born Rhys Ifans (below) pre match speech to the squad.

"When you play, you're not just playing for the living, you're playing for hundreds of thousands of men who came before me and you. There's two million people in Wales, you're playing for 20, 30 million. Ghosts. Four hundred years ago, you might have been young men. This is the line waiting in misty ledges on the banks of a valley somewhere, ready to defend, protect your family, your lovers, your brothers, your sisters, your mothers, your aunts, your livestock, your dwellings, ready to pounce.teo hundred years after that, you might have been young men crying for their mothers, sharing a cigarette, before climbing out of a trench into the clataclysm, the killing machine of two World Wars. Years later, you'd have been standing at a pithead or a quarry mouth, waiting to retrieve the dead and injured. Devastated in an industrial accident, brought upon us by decades of neglect, by people putting money before community, cash before compassion. Forty years ago, you could have been standing in a court of law anywhere in Wales, waiting for a prison sentence for taking direct action, for defending your basic right to live and dream and be educated in your own language”
