Sheff Weds pre match : Coleman behind Williams despite poor form
Tuesday, 22nd Oct 2024 11:57 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

Swansea City head to Sheffield Wednesday for a 7:45pm kick off tonight at Hillsborough. The second midweek trip to Sheffield in a matter of a few weeks. It’s makes you think doesn’t it ? And this after another trip north on Saturday to Blackburn Rovers.

And people ask why the travelling Jack Army find it hard to sustain their support for the club.

It isn’t about the teams that are in the league, it’s more about some common sense when these fixtures are thrown up by the computer in the summer. Tonight Luke Williams has the usual injuries, the main omission is Eom who continues to rehabilitate from his MCL injury. We are uncertain about Kyrell Wilson, but Sam Parker and Aimar Govea are fit, two players who are right in front of head coach, Luke Williams with their hands up at the front of the class.

Speaking on this game Williams has stated, “There are key moments in games we can extract to try and demonstrate how a different decision or action can create a more positive outcome, because we can see away from home that with the control we have had in games we have the chance to get positive results. I have faith in the players that can do that, and we have another chance on Tuesday”

The Swans are in thirteenth in the Championship table just four points above relegation and six below the play offs. The season is taking a predictable turn with the thin squad available. So, why not Govea and Parker as both have played first team football in the championship ? What harm could either do compared to some of the decision making the head coach has made by forcing his square pegs into round holes ?

Luke stated he wanted to have a look at things after ten games, well, those ten games have been played and it’s four losses, three wins and three draws, with a lack of firepower up front. There, that’s the assessment. Not good enough. He has to look to this game to restore some faith in his managerial qualities, especially now the club are so close to the foot of the table with a full round of fixtures being played tonight and tomorrow.

We can take a look at the officials now.

The P19 column refers to total games away for the Swans at Hillsborough. The last six is just that, the last six games.

Our match day thread is here —> ⚽️ Sheffield Wednesday Forum

Tonight’s game isn’t about the performance, it’s all about the result. We need to see resilience and please no trying to protect leads after sixty minutes. It’s borderline stupidity. At a forum at Nathaniel MG, Swansea last week, which didn’t seem to impact on many, not least those who attended, Coleman was very clear about Luke Williams. He stated the club were very much behind the head coach and most certainly was in for the long haul. Well, that long haul is currently not working, be that the blame of the club for not investing appropriately or the manager for being unable to guide the team in the correct way on the pitch.

The evidence that more options up front are needed is before us all.

Wednesday boss, Danny Röhl is in eighteenth. Their weakness is conceding goals. Really, this has to be earmarked as a draw at least. However, we should also note Wednesday’s impressive home win against West Bromwich Albion (3-2) Recently their 2-0 home defeat against Burnley was more about mistakes than anything else. Ike Ugbo is their Zán Vipotnik, he too coming under scrutiny regards his overall game. Similar to the Swans they have drawn 0-0 with Bristol City and defeated Coventry away 1-2.

Teams and more news later.
