Kukharevych & Yates speculation, plus latest Swans losses, Allen & Naughton dilemma Monday, 31st Mar 2025 15:32 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes Mykola Kukharevych and Jerry Yates are both set to leave the club this summer, and will be a priority for the club to move on when the transfer window opens we are informed. This year there is an ‘exceptional’ first transfer window which opens on Sunday June 1st until Tuesday June 10th. All Premier League clubs will be free to do business during the earlier window, not just Chelsea and Manchester City, who are participating in the Club World Cup. This enables Premier League clubs to do early transfer business before the club World Cup. This competition will be held in the USA for a month starting on June 15th. Money talks again. The transfer window starts for the Swans proper on June 10th and will run until September 1st. ![]() The news we have for you this Monday is as follows. Both Jerry Yates and Mykola Kukharevych have been out on loan this season to Derby County and Hibernian respectively. Yates has scored seven times for the Rams this season with two assists in thirty three starts. Mykola has four goals to his name with no assists though he has had seven games out injured. Jerry has a marmite effect on Derby fans, many like his contribution but would like to see more goals, in a struggling side though John Eustace has been encouraged to sign him this window. Lee Hendrie, ex Villa and football pundit, "I think the style of play Derby have had to go by pretty much all-season suits him, he's a workhorse, he's capable. I think if you give him the creativity and service in behind he's a handful. You do feel that John Eustace will be looking to make that a permanent move. I think he could fit the bill, I really do. He's got the experience to stay in that Derby side, I do think they will bolster if they stay up in the Championship. This was just a key season for them” On Jerry Yates we have learned after a discussion with a journalist in the Midlands that there is a high possibility that John Eustace will push for Yates to be signed in the summer. That puts the Swans in a stronger position of course, what would have potentially been a 1.5 million fee could reach 2.25 million. Pure speculation as far as we are concerned. With Swans fans opinions taken into consideration not many would see Yates as a squad player next season. Yes, he has his admirers, but we can only base opinion on what we saw last season and what we have seen this at Derby. Would he be decent in a team with a permanent manager such as Alan Sheehan, has he got a place ? We have spoken to one Swansea source who tells us that every single Swans player is for sale, that’s always been the case. In Yates circumstance the Swans would listen and have dialogue with Derby, but nothing at all has been indicated ‘firmly’ they wish to do so in the summer. They went on to say that there’s little expectation of a full recoup of the sum paid for Jerry to Blackpool, if you include Kyle Joseph in the mix. But a cut price deal in their opinion of around two million pounds would potentially get both clubs around the table. In January there was dialogue with Derby County on Yates, but the Rams were not prepared to sign up to anything at that point. Director of football, Richard Montague will be more aware of course, Yates falls within his working remit. With the Swans looking to swell their coffers for summer recruitment along with a small already defined cash box of around five million pounds (sources) the money would be appreciated. ![]() No confirmation of players being released has been reported by the club, but there will be a good handful in the age grade sides and in the first team squad. One of which we understand is already aware of their future. Despite rumours to the contrary on their salary - thoughts will go to the likes of Joe Allen and Kyle Naughton. Neither are on anything near that has been suggested but new contracts for these players could run to a basic of half a million pounds (*correction £600,000) per season. We say basic as signing on fees, if applicable (remember Kyle was released and re-signed two years ago) are paid throughout the contract including all manner of extras. Is it time to move on from Joe and Kyle ? Can a million pounds a year be better spent ? Current interim manager, Alan Sheehan it seems would be loathed to let Allen go. He very much wants him in his squad if he is made permanent in the summer. ![]() The recent declarations of last years losses to end June 2024 stand at 15.2M knocking the Swans over the profit & sustainability threshold for Championship clubs over a three year period. However we have been advised now that profit and sustainability isn’t affected as a result of an approximate 4M overspend on three years of declarations. Thanks to one of our subscribers we have now learned that non-cash items (depreciation & amortisation) and any money invested in youth/academies & women’s football and similar areas are deductible from the overall financial review. So, good news there. ![]() Whatever the Swans decide to do with both of these players this summer, and as they are on loan then the clubs paying their salaries (in full) would be the best place for them to return to permanently. Or at least be in pole position. We have done what research we can on this, it’s early days but indications are that Mykola and Jerry are very much available to leave the club at reduced cost. For us ? It may sound a big gamble but keeping Jerry devalues him almost immediately. His contract is up next year in June 2026. If he has a poor season then he leaves on a free. If he is sold in January it will be a very low figure. Mykola is in the exact same position contract wise, and he is most certainly likely to leave. It’s hard to be accurate but would 800k sound about right for a player who signed for much more ? The big issue there for us is who would pay that for a player who hasn’t either had the chance at his parent club or hasn’t reached expectations in the Scottish Premier League. Both would free up around 1.3M in salaries for the coming season. Not forgetting the Swans may well have to utilise a good percentage of that cash in paying off their actual transfer fees when they signed for the Swans. Very few signings if any are paid in full, those days have gone. Much the same as the Swans are receiving instalments for Matt Grimes on his basic fee to Coventry. The payments run for the entirety of his contract. Some forty months from signing. That’s how it’s done these days. It’s the same for signing on fees for players, they are generally spread across the players contract in agreed instalments. It’s pretty much how clubs can survive these days.
