Swans still to have official talks with Sheehan
Tuesday, 22nd Apr 2025 15:37 by Keith Haynes

Alan Sheehan is still to be invited for official talks with Swansea City over the permanent head coach role which becomes available just after the season ends. With speculation last week that the situation between the only two runners in this would be settled far sooner than expected, there is an expectation that this could still be the case this week. But are the Swans dragging their feet ?

However, Alan Sheehan hasn’t had what would be described as official dialogue as he stated only yesterday. “Let’s see what happens. It’s not a given. We’ll see. If they want me to be the guy, we’ll have a conversation. It’s not a definite yes, it’s not a definite no. We need to be aligned as a football club. Looking forward, what are the expectations? Obviously we’re on an incredible run – five wins in a row in the Championship is very good – but ultimately I can’t really answer that”

Alan Sheehan hasn’t been given any indicator he is wanted after the next two games, and last weeks news on Kim Hellberg (below) at Hammarby also in favour has put a spanner in the works. A big one. We don’t believe he has had any official talks either, he was never planned in to coming to Swansea last week. However, Richard Montague, Sporting Director is known to be keen on the Swede as are a couple of the Swans board. Really in Sheehan’s case at any other club he would be made clear on the next stage of the process, what is on offer and have scheduled in official talks. As of this afternoon that is not the case.

This is a fluid situation of course.

The Swans are obviously relying now on the fact Sheehan is contracted for the next two games and that he will remain loyal as to the terms he has. However, that doesn’t mean he is oblivious to clubs looking for a head coach right now and in the summer. As we mentioned last week in a report which was lifted from these pages without any credit by Tom Coleman at Wales On Line the next day, other clubs are very interested in him. And we can confirm that one of those clubs has recently moved on their manager or have interim people in charge.

That’s here —> ⚽️ Sheehan of interest elsewhere

That’s a certainty. And they have more money than the Swans to get their man. That’s not to say he is a number one target nor the best placed for these appointments, but the Swans really do have to be mindful of this.

Alan Sheehan has indicated he is none the wiser this week, and it now seems that after Wednesday at least the club will have made a provisional decision. Allegedly some for of board discussion will take place. The big question is will that become known or kept close to the clubs main decision makers ? This will be difficult as there are leaks within the club. People will have sight of minutes, logistics, pre contract offers and general gossip, all of which won’t be typed up or formalised by executive positions. That’s why the club employ staff to do that. We do know of course there has been interest in Luka Modrić furthering his interests on the Swans board. Yes he is being used as a commercial revenue stream already, but those overall conditions are still to be ironed out. There’s only so much the Swans can do with one of the worlds best known footballers when it comes to image rights and how the club use him. That is still very unclear.

Alan Sheehan has the majority support of the fans, and if they do matter to the club they should be taking interest. His win rate since this second interim appointment shoes the Swans in top spot in the Championship over six games. Yes, top.

Over ten games the Swans are second, mission accomplished you would have thought ?

That’s clearly not the case as Alan Sheehan still doesn’t know his destiny, and as of this morning has no idea whatsoever where his future may lay.
