Wales v Belgium: What’s ahead and play off information. Big game pre match
Monday, 13th Oct 2025 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Wales have a golden opportunity to go top of their World Cup Qualification group tonight IF they can overcome Belgium in Cardiff this evening. (7:45pm) It isn’t right to compare this game with the away friendly at Wembley which England won 3-0 last Thursday, But as a result of that game and recent form certain Wales followers are getting a little bit tetchy towards head coach, Craig Bellamy.

Of course it’s across social media where the majority feed off others so they don’t stand out in the crowd, or join in and devalue people of note like Bellamy because they don’t have the type of bravery these individuals possess. That’s a common diagnosis for these bottom feeders, Facebook too. And it will build even more so if tonight doesn’t go right results wise. If we look at the table (below) as it is this morning it is clear one win and Wales are top. Until next month.

Then it’s a case of the November internationals where on the face of it Lichtenstein away on the 15th (5pm) ‘should’ be three points and then there’s the final game on the 18th home to North Macedonia, that’s a Tuesday evening game. There’s a way to go yet before the play off sides (second place) or best Nations League teams are in the hat.

This is how it goes. The UEFA (European) playoffs involve 16 teams: the 12 group stage runners-up plus the four best-ranked group winners from the Nations League who did not finish in the top two in World Cup qualifying. This creates four routes, each with four teams featuring a one-legged semi-final and a final for a place at the World Cup. Finishing top was already a big call especially with the strength of North Macedonia and also Belgium.

Of course if Wales win their next three it’s beyond doubt. They qualify.

We have to be realistic tonight, only a performance that is memorable and up there with some of the greatest nights we have seen this century will be good enough. Those that hid against England have to be to a man prepared to sweat blood for the cause. They will have enough numbers behind them, the atmosphere will be electric and the stage is set. No slip ups and please no seven goal thrillers going down 4-3 as we witnessed in Belgium !
