Swansea City : Matos arrives with new staff & focus on Derby County
Monday, 24th Nov 2025 06:23 by Swansea Independent

Swansea City enter a new era under the guidance of Vitor Matos who has now finalised all his own personal terms officially, and is all ready to be announced as the new Swansea City head coach.

The position on Darren O’Dea who didn’t do much to inspire on Saturday is ‘rumoured’ now to be sorted out. That was the best we could get yesterday afternoon, but to be honest if the new staff are coming in surely he won’t be a Swansea City employee for too much longer. We have been told that some form of confirmation will happen today, However, it’s now become the worst kept secret in football due to some excellent research and journalism from this site. We are not slappimg our own backs ,I’m personally stating the work that goes into getting these reports to you is phenomenal. And that’s those who help us on a daily basis. We have two researchers and still retain the services of Liam but I can assure you without their assistance this website wouldn’t function anywhere near to the capacity it does.

The writing bit is easy.

It’s fairly obvious that the club needs to clear all this up officially. Over the last two weeks it has been confusing for some people to understand those wheels that were always in motion. Usually a club takes on average twenty four days to appoint a new manager. So it was a fast paced appointment which we hope the club will report today or soon wasn’t a panic decision. Certain aspects of the information that is released by Swansea needs to reassure a support attending for tomorrow nights evening kick off against Derby County. With Kim Hellberg ‘still’ pondering his future with HammarbyIF and or Middlesbrough this morning it very much seems he hasn't made his mind up.

Reports indicate this will be all a lot clearer today, we can only hope.

Derby County are on a roll, Yes, they lost on Saturday at home to Watford but prior to that they were a side very much awake and dragging themselves out of trouble in the Championship. In fact over the last six games they are second on form and over ten they are fourth. Despite the Swans not being in a season average relegation fight they are reflected in the bottom three over the past six and ten games. People thinking this game tomorrow should be a win haven't been watching close enough. It’s a new head coach onnthe rouchlines if all goes to plan, and he will have had only around 40 hours in the job. He will take training and meet the players later this morning, so in effect he will have one training session and the usual match day light activation routines. Really then Vitor Matos has very little time, but of course he has to start somewhere.

Rams results below.

We will add the Swans too.

Not quite the same is it ? This is the real area that Matos and his staff need to get ahold of.

⚽️ Indy match fact : If Ethan Galbraith, Marko Stamenic or Cameron Burgess are booked tomorrow evening they will be out for the fixture at West Bromwich Albion this coming Saturday (3pm) They will have reached five bookings and a match ban will follow.

We will run with team news later and updates on Swansea City.
