Josh Key link with Blackburn Rovers ? Plus Bianchini & Casey
Monday, 12th Jan 2026 13:50 by Liam Walters

Rumours of Josh Key being of interest to Blackburn Rovers is merely a rehash of news before he even joined Swansea City we have been told. However, maybe preying upon his recent downturn in form those referencing this are hopeful there may be something in it ?

Either way the Swans won’t be entertaining an offer this week for the Devon born defender and our information is he is more than happy at the Swans. Since his form loss and a few injuries it may well have been a consideration, but as we have reported before Josh (below) is at a club that has elevated his playing standard. And every player has bumps in their career path.

Swansea City have not recieved any offers for Key and that comes again away from the club and from people who know Josh well. Plus he has no interest in moving at all. Based on that a rumoured bid for Key from Blackburn Rovers we are writing off for now. Possibly due to the fact it hasn't happened. In late 2022 Rovers were linked with Key but he stated he didn’t want to go anywhere away from Exeter until summer, 2023. “It would have been a tough decision but I am happy now I will finish the rest of the season with Exeter, we have a good chance of getting promoted, and that will help everyone. I would never say I wouldn’t want to help Exeter but I have got to look at my career as well as it is a short career, but I am still here, that’s the main thing.”

Then the Swans stepped in.

Josh also signed a contract extension until 2027 four months ago so in the immediate he has no real intentions to leave. The signing of Joel Ward until the end of the season was seen by some as a replacement, that very much is not the case. We saw yesterday that a confident Josh Key is of value to the Swans when he came on as a substitute against WBA and provided an assist for Zeidane Inoussa to draw the game level.

The situation at Swansea is Key is the main right back at the club with Joel Ward operating between that position and centre back which leads us on to Kaelan Casey on loan from West Ham. We understand that West Ham may consider bringing him back to London this January. His lack of game time is a concern for them. Overall he has made eight league appearances for the Swans and five cup outings. That is being seen at West Ham as less than they expected for the twenty one year old. Well, that’s the party line at the moment. It really doesn’t matter why when the news of a recall or return is possible. (Tom Coleman /WOL tweet via what’s app) This news we have covered prior to this as a possibility but we always credit a first source.

Florian Bianchini is likely to remain at Portsmouth for the rest of the season. He is currently injured and Portsmouth don’t have a return option. As it stands the Swans are highly unlikely to recall him.

Thanks again for supporting the Indy.

Josh is a good player for the Swans and if he's happy here then why move him on right. I was puzzled in his lack of form from early in the season. However, I think he has he form again (mojo) and no doubt he will kick on for the rest of the season!
