Swans v Owls : TEAM NEWS & Match Day Morning
Sunday, 8th Feb 2026 07:00 by Swansea Independent

The Swans kick off against the Owls at 12:01pm today. We’ve covered the fixture extensively and you can read our coverage below. What matters now is simple, this is a game Swansea City must win, they must take their chances and secure the three points.

The reason why is the next lot of fixtures will be extremely difficult, and nothing is guaranteed yet for Swansea City. That could be a climb up the table or indeed a relegation fight. After yesterday’s results the Championship looks like this as it stands this morning.

Seven points from the relegation spots and just eight points from the top six. For us the Championship is the place to be if you want some absurd results and unexpected competitive football matches. This was highlighted yesterday.

Wrexham in sixth going down at home assisted the teams below, and in the Swans case kept them just eight points behind them. Derby scored five against Bristol City last weekend and then we see the Robins turning over form side Hull City away 2-3. Oxford will be delighted with an unexpected draw at Coventry City. This is why we pointed out in the week the necessity to come into today’s game without any preconceived ideas about a weak Sheffield Wednesday side who cannot find the net.

See below.

⚽️ Never underestimate any opposition

Tactically Vitor Matos will set up his side to give everyone an entertaining early afternoon. The Swans will make chances, we will see free flowing football at times and an attitude that every time they are on the front foot they will look for goals. We haven’t seen this for so long it’s a joy to look forward and witness these current times at Swansea City. For us it’s the start of something, we can only hope it develops as this season progresses and we look back on these these times as the root of something really special.

Barry Bannan, Harry Amass, Bailey Cadamarteri and Yisa Alao have left the club and news this morning is that Yan Valery possibly won’t play as he is off on loan to Young Boys in Switzerland. Who knows but the 1,400 Owls fans travelling to this fixture really do deserve a mention.

Come on the Jacks !
