Swansea City : Injury concerns pre Sheffield United but good news too
Thursday, 2nd Apr 2026 08:00 by Liam Walters

Focus today turns to ‘tomorrow’ for the Good Friday 3pm kick off at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United. There’s good and concerning news for that game. Later there is more to come as the Swans reveal their last year accounts.

Zān Vipotnik returned without injury having made an impact during his games for Slovenia. That much we do know on the Swans striker who scored two goals for his country against Montenegro. However, for the Swans medical staff most of yesterday was taken up on those returning international players, and the stringent tests all players endure after playing for their countries. With so much at stake when players go on international duty, injury checks on returning are paramount. There’s big figures at stake for every international FA if anything is amiss. Eom a prime example playing for South Korea. That injury occurred in October 2024 against Jordan in a World Cup Qualifier.

The travelling some of the players have done has been massive. Leo Walta, Lawrence Vigouroux and Marko Stamenić all travelled across the world for their games. Cameron Burgess didn’t get away with short distances either. It wasn’t so bad for Ethan Galbraith (below) with the media continually banging on about his placement for the Swans at right back. Is this a clear attempt to undermine Vitor Matos ? He has a slight calf issue which will be monitored. The last we heard - he is expected to travel to Sheffield. This is where the Swans will have to do comparisons with his fitness when he left the club to join up with Northern Ireland. Losing Ethan would be a huge blow. The players will be tired, and with two games coming up in short time, the Swans at home to Middlesbrough on Monday (5:30pm) it’s about recuperation. The good news being that Josh Tymon has had time to rest and train with the Swans who despite missing quite a few first team players have had a successful international break and some added time off.

Josh Key is definitely out for both Easter fixtures with Matos reporting, "It's a tricky, strange injury at the same time because it was the knock, and with the knock there was a small tear in the muscle. It could be more than the two games over Easter, for sure he will not be available for Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, and probably not the next one after that, but we will see." If Ethan doesn’t make the Blades game there will be a start for Joel Ward we believe.

The Swans will be heading northwards around midday today.

The Jack Army are expected to travel in decent numbers with only around sixty tickets remaining from the 1,150 allocation. A great day out for the travelling Jacks. We will of course have more on the game as it gets closer. We hope our April fool story on Matos didn’t spoil your corn flakes yesterday morning. It went down well and quite a few were caught out. It can’t always be serious following the Swans. Thanks for your continued support.
