Swansea City : First target of the summer confirmed and Vipotnik lies
Sunday, 12th Apr 2026 11:59 by Keith Haynes

Swansea Independent can confirm through an agent source that Barnsley winger, Reyes Demar Uriah Cleary has been watched by Swansea City over the last seven months. The player turns twenty two tomorrow.

He is also admired by Ryan Maye who came to the Swans in December last year. Listed as the Swans Assistant Manager at the club he is yet to be recognised as such by the administration itself in its own directory. However, more interest comes from the work of the recruitment side of the club. A department that has unearthed the likes of Melker Widell and delivered players like Ethan Galbraith, Adam Idah and Marko Stamenić as permanent signings.

Cleary is from Birmingham originally and has had two improved seasons, one at Hatlepool on loan from West Bromwich Albion before signing for Barnsley last summer. This season he has brought attention on himself with that sixty yard strike for the Tykes against Bradford City in October. There are other clubs involved in the pursuit of his signature which may come in around half a million pounds we are told. However that isn’t the value the Swans put on him. He is not the finished article by his own admission but has blistering pace. "It's just sometimes about reading the game. If I see a high line, I'm going to back myself in a foot race." He has played in thirty six league games this season for Barnsley aiding his side with twelve assists and six goals. In three cup games he has also contributed three more assists.

It has started early but we can confirm this player is of interest to Swansea City.

⚽️ Zān Vipotnik
Despite these rag tag accounts pushing a whole plethora of clubs interested in the Championship top goal scorer not one of those clubs mentioned have displayed any interest in the striker. Not one has approached the Swans nor has any agent been instructed to act on behalf of any side to manage any initial contact. There was interest in January but no talks, in fact despite these spurious stories and the Swans stating to agents that the player wasn’t available these awful and embarrassing sites including preferred media who charge money for access insisted on reporting outright lies. They have no interest in delivering a service with professional content. They set up a headline that encourages you to click and they’ve got you. They are even trying to pedal nonsense today after Swans head coach, Vitor Matos stated there has been no interest last week.

A journalistic embarresment.
