Swansea City : Mikael Dorsin, the context, the advantages and the money Saturday, 9th May 2026 17:02 by Keith Haynes There is a new name in the frame for the Swansea City Sporting Director role that has come about over the past few weeks. Initially it seemed he was going to be too costly, and in amongst other approaches he alleges have been made he has had numerous opportunities. His name is Mikael Dorsin. Despite other local outlets reporting he is the Sporting Director at Rosenborg (RBK) he is no longer employed by the club and is a free agent, out of contract. He moved to Copenhagen in Denmark a few months ago to be closer to his son Leo who we reference in this report. He represented Sweden in the 2008 Euros. A club ‘legend’ at Norwegian club Rosenborg (RBK) for his playing exploits the forty four year old has also gained experience in recruiting roles at the Eliteserien league club. References to his ‘transfers out’ making multi millions have been made but his real quality is in how he organises and structurally develops within the recruitment area of a club. We have seen all the usual outlets poaching the story from Tipsbladet, simply just repeating basic information. We’ve decided to have a look deeper into this alleged candidate who has stated he has already turned down another Championship club. ![]() Putting context and realism to this latest potential turn of events with the crucial facts of his availability since he left Rosenborg on December 31st 2025. He left the club citing, ‘He was too tired for the role’ Whether that was a parting gesture for the directors at the club or a personal feeling he hasn’t mentioned it since. Others will tell you he was dismissed. Alfred Johansson, the head coach has also since left his role at the club. When researching this we were told, don’t be surprised if that wasn’t Swansea initially a month or so ago that Dorsin turned down, it’s possible he has had dialogue previously. First off the salary he would command is in the region of £250,000 a year minimum, with a percentage of sales going to him within his contract agreement. The average Sporting Director salary is around £75,000 a year in the Eliteserien, but of course Dorsin has elevated himself far beyond figures of that nature. What we hear about him is his desire to manage a structure within a club that excels. In recruitment terms this is all about ‘scouting analytics, contractual terms, and technical role definitions used to identify, evaluate, and acquire talent’ This is where Dorsin’s success in sourcing and selling players is essential. Game sense awareness we are told is a key area for Dorsin, and that’s something we have seen the Swans struggle with this past season. Any player coming in would have been assessed in his key position to remain constantly aware of the changing outlook second by second, especially when defending. This has also been in question at times, even since Vitor Matos came in as head coach in November 2025. Dorsin will want scouts that typically play an important role in the initial phases of a club’s talent identification process. ‘Scouts mainly observe and assess players who are not yet recruited by elite soccer academies in soccer trials or games’ (Reeves, McRobert, Lewis, & Roberts) The Swans do have a very decent scouting structure which would please Dorsin, so to source players with speed and stamina which again is an area he likes ensures immediate potential from the off. Without doubt Dorsin will want to restructure the recruitment of the club he goes to when it comes to the recruitment and scouting network he wants. He likes to see progression through a clubs academy, however he also likes to see money coming in from academy prospects. This could conflict with what is currently occurring at Swansea City. Dorsin would also be interested in encouraging a far bigger effort in youth recruitment. The Swans would need to agree to a much smarter data driven and higher profile approach to sourcing young players. The last academy manager to see beyond the boundaries was Mark Allen. He recruited, Kyrell Wilson, Filip Lissah and Charlie Veevers (now at Burnley) he eventually moved on to the Sporting Director role which ended abruptly in April 2022. Before that he brought in Flynn Downes (a Russell Martin recommendation) Joel Latibeaudiere, Michael Obafemi, Jamie Paterson and Oliver Ntcham from his time as Sporting Director in Glasgow at Rangers. Ntcham came in from Celtic. Ethan Laird was also a player he managed to get in on loan. This is the wider recruiting policy that Allen brought to Swansea. That of course in no way a stick to beat the current set up at Swansea. This is about recruitment on a global basis with a new structure. Yes there are restrictions as we have ready spoken about this week, and to an extent it is more of a gamble but the current U21 set up under Anthony Wright is the most exciting we have seen for many years. Dorsin will also be a possible choice as his son Lee is being touted as the biggest young prospect to come out of Scandinavia in some years. Now sixteen his stay in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland U19 could be coming to a close. If he did come to Swansea you would expect his son to come as well. The possibilities of Dorsin earning an appointment at Swansea are pretty much the same as anyone else. A number of other potential candidates have been talked about. However, if the Swans want to look for the next step in organisation, potential, recruitment and structure then Mikael Dorsin could well fit that mould. The salary and all the extras could see a nigh on half a million pounds investment when you look at all the other areas from housing to family, schooling, settlement and incidentals. But if you want to have someone with experience and an endorsed history in the field then these are the figures you have to pay. Next season stagnation isn’t on the menu. ⚽️ Read our latest transfer report on the Indy ⚽️ Follow the Swans on our new Reddit : Join the community. ![]() ⚽️ Click for info It has saved lives.
