Swansea City coaching staff urging an early completion to Galbraith contract talks
Tuesday, 12th May 2026 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Swansea City are being urged by the current coaching set up at the club to engage and sort out the contract dilemma with Ethan Galbraith. He is seen as a key player by head coach, Vitor Matos for all the reasons we already know.

The last offers Ethan has had haven’t been acceptable to him. Not least the minimal amount (not our words) he has been offered, but also a new buy out clause as well. We have been told the clause is well in excess of twelve million pounds. Galbraith was revealed by this site as desperately wanting to join Swansea City from Leyton Orient just a year ago. Despite a tentative bid in January 2025 his dream became reality in the summer window of last year. The constant attention paid to him by then recruitment specialist, Adam Worth in managing his signing for the Swans cannot be left to a forgotten corner at the Swansea.com. We have been told he agreed to a very much improved salary compared to what he was on at the O’s, increasing his weekly income threefold when signing on at the Swans.

In that time Ethan has earned himself a lot of admirers with the usual suspects concocting reports of clubs interested when there has been very little, and none since the season closed. His agent, Lee Mudd is active but the contract impasse has soured any chance of more talks for now at least. However, with the club under pressure from its own coaches to resolve the matter quickly we expect another effort to be made by CEO Tom Gorringe in the immediate future. He does have autonomy to an extent but the handling of the opening talks seems flawed and unprofessional if the player has walked away with a negative attitude towards the CEO and the club. Anyone who has spoken to Ethan of late will be left with no uncertainty of his current mindset and belief, let’s just put it that way.

There needs to be a grown up conversation, and with hardly anyone, in fact only Tom Gorringe taking on all tasks (he has no recruitment assistance or experienced football person to work with) priorities are going to be hard to complete with so much on. You simply cannot run a football club single handed, especially one which employs elite athletes in one of the toughest leagues in the world. It will lead to a catastrophic conclusion.

Thats something we all should be aware of. Nobody wants the current CEO to underperform because that will lead to a mess behind the scenes affecting both the club and its supporters. What needs to be realised is the club is operating on minimum expert staffing with a CEO on nigh on three hundred thousand pounds a year. No other Championship club waits nearly ten months to appoint a Sporting Director, or over a month to find a suitable head of recruitment. And no club operates with such a slim daily operating structure.

There seems to be a controlling feature within the club.

With the clubs coaches wanting this to be put away quickly and head coach Vitor Matos not taking too much time off to construct a team that can challenge confidently this coming season, this is surely the main club priority ? If it is also a case that Ethan Galbraith has heard of much bigger offers with a lower buy out in his current contract then the club need to carefully manage news on this. That’s a big ‘if’ mind.

The closed season is very early on its path to August, but it is underway. The Swans need to secure Ethan with their best offer not one that upsets him or is deemed a low baller. If he gets that and still isn’t happy then yes we will see a player on his way, potentially this summer. He has the ability to spearhead the Swans next season, and to see him at another Championship club, say Wolves as an example will be a huge loss.

Excellent observational input with clarity! I'm confident work in going on in the background to fix this unresolved issue. It would be seriously dumb to ignore the wise warning I would suggest most fans are aware of. They got VP (for one) to agree to new deal well beforehand, and to be fair the coaching staff are not fully aware what is going upstairs. Things appear to be going in the right direction and have been doing so for some time. We all agree on that I'm sure and it's a good thing you are pointing these things out. Everybody is aware of the talant Galbraith brings to table and offering a new deal will only increase his value. You don't need a calculator to see that. Patience needs to provail and hammering out an agreement will take time, but I'm confident it's in the works and a new deal will be accepted!

.... Saying that, I never expected Coventry City to kick our asses on our home turf either 🤔😏! That one game was a big turning point in our season, if we put any effort into that game then a top six possibly was on the cards! That was hard for me to take and I opted not to go to another game for the rest of season after that! There are things going on (in ever) at the club we are unaware of, so we speculate. If it's out of our control then why worry about it? The problem is because we are connected and so we do!
