Wales v Ghana : International friendly this Tuesday
Sunday, 31st May 2026 08:00 by Swansea Independent

There won’t be a cast of thousands at this Tuesday night game against Ghana which is pretty much for the benefit of Ghana more than the hosts Wales. (7:45pm) Ghana play England on June 23rd in the World Cup so it’s clear they are looking to take some value from the fixture as a part of their preparations.

Ticket sales have been extremely low with the interest in this game even lower.

Head coach, Craig Bellamy has announced a fairly strong squad which has now seen some withdrawals. Fulham’s Harry Wilson and Swansea City’s Ben Cabango have withdrawn, so in come another Swan in Cameron Congreve and Ollie Bostock from West Bromwich Albion. Ghana will have their preliminary World Cup squad at the game, it’s their last friendly before they open up their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18th.

Ghana have announced a preliminary squad as mentioned with manager Carlos Queiroz waiting until after this game to refine his choices. Thomas Partey, now at Villarreal is currently on bail for seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault, but he makes this prelim cut. Thirty four year old ex Swansea player Jordan Ayew, Manchester City's Antoine Semenyo and Athletic Club's Inaki Williams will also be in the Ghana squad. Tottenham winger Mohammed Kudus has missed out with the same quad injury which has kept him out of action since January. Baba Abdul Rahman, who turns out for the Greek outfit PAOK, returns to Ghana's national team after nearly three years.

They are a nation not be underestimated and came close to beating Germany at the end of March. Facing England in Foxborough, Panama in Toronto and Croatia in Philadelphia, the Black Stars as they are known will be led by Jordan Ayew as captain. South Korea came up against Ghana in a November friendly beating them 1-0. Swans player Eom featured on the bench. Ghana pretty much breezed their World Cup qualification group which consisted of Madagascar, Mali and Comoros.

It’s a clever move by Carlos Queiroz keeping his players waiting for a final squad announcement, plus this will be his first game in charge of Ghana so maybe he wants to see his players in one competitive game before they head off to their Rhode Island training base in the USA. Wales will play again on Saturday in Romania in another friendly. Ex Swans feature throughout the squad with Connor Roberts and Ben Davies returning to the fold.
