Swansea City : Club to remain resilient for now on Galbraith
Wednesday, 3rd Jun 2026 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Footballers say things to suit their audience and most certainly to suit themselves. With Ethan Galbraith and Zan Vipotnik both quizzed by their respective countries media this week little can really be gauged. On the face of it that is.

We all know that a club that can double a players wages and hit the right figures to buy a player will almost certainly get that individual to sign for them. Especially if a number of clubs are interested. In Ethan Galbraith’s case the Swans felt if they moved early as they did with an improved contract (and it was) as per Zan Vipotnik he would see the benefit in a pay rise. But of course that wasn’t the only issue. With the Swans light of a Sporting Director or recruitment specialist to replace Richard Montague and Adam Worth this as everything else seems to do fall into the hands of CEO Tom Gorringe. The issue there is he hasn’t got any experience at this level, that is single handedly managing a whole football club. In fact any club that is running as it is at Swansea City is leaving everything in the hands of pot luck.

There’s no way Tom Gorringe can manage every facet of the club despite having a mystery man by his side for the last three weeks. The belief is he has brought in his own ‘Ken Gude’ as once Chairman, Andrew Coleman has done in the past. Whether that’s yet another old mate from Bristol Rovers or someone with a bit more savvy - only Tom knows. With certain appointments mostly linked to Gorringe’s old club that are not broadcast it also seems a very odd place Swansea City are in. What is certain is that with so much specialist business on at this moment in time regards transfers, hundreds of inquiries to come and a professional approach required this isn’t the CEO’s sole job. It’s a specialist and experienced position. There’s no way the Swans should negotiate this with one man alone, or a few old pals who he believes he can trust.

It was Tom Gorringe who met with Lee Mudd, Galbraith’s agent and presented him with a better salary than his current nine thousand pounds a week (don’t believe anything lower) which would have improved Ethan’s salary by about five thousand pounds a month. There is a belief that Galbraith has a fairly low release clause based on his initial contract last summer. We can’t confirm or deny that but there is a twenty percent or so sell on clause. We have been told the Swans rarely go above twenty. What we do know is that the new release clause has bothered Galbraith as well as his agent.

And that we believe is the issue.

What we have also heard is that the club at the behest of the majority ownership are now sitting tight for now on that offer, despite dialogue since it was made. Galbraith has two years to run on his contract with a year club option so it seems the Swans are saying ‘Crack on Ethan’ Of course there has been Twitter nonsense and from people who should know better that certain clubs are interested, but the fact is nothing has been tabled, mentioned or talked about as of today that would lead to a transfer. The sad fact is this could roll on for ten more weeks until the summer window closes. That’s how crazy these journalists are. Galbraith is actually playing for his country, Northern Ireland against Guinea at Estadio Ciudad de La Línea, La Línea de la Concepción, which oddly enough is in Cadiz province. That game goes ahead tomorrow evening.

There’s a thing …

He has already stated to professional journalists this week, “I try not to think about it. It’s nice when you see people saying you are doing good things, but at the moment, I’m a Swansea player and am trying to focus on Swansea.” This has been repeated by certain Wales accounts as some form of headline.

The concern of course is his non committal statement to Swansea City, and by that we refer to his ‘at the moment’ inclusion when asked about his future at the Swans. What Ethan won’t talk about is his contract offer, that as much as any comment on it - is definitely off the table. The dilemma for the Swans majority owners remains that to achieve their dream of getting to the Premier League players like Ethan Galbraith really should be at the club next season. Zan Vipotnik too. On him we will have news tomorrow at some point.

with a deff 2 year contract with a possible 3rd which he has agreed to and being paid in my opinion the owners are doing the right thing, what ever his new offer is, if they can , as i have said before "sell the dream" not only to him but others we have at the club , bring in guys to add even more quality to the squad to enhance the chances of a play off place, now again only my opinion we need people who can run the club on a daily basis, run the football side and run the commercial side, 1 man cannot do it all succesfuly

This lack of a DoF has gone on for too long and is looking like a lack of professionalism by the club, and a lack of leadership from the owners. We've seen this before and it penalises the club, and unsettles the coaches, and probably ambitious players too if they think about it.
Is it the owners or is Tom the ones who havent got a grip?

This one worries me and how it plays out. Gorringe does not have the experience to deal with all these things at once in my opinion and, even though the Swans technically have him for three years, that release clause will be triggered come end of August
