Swansea City : Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku & Moussa Yeo assessed and compared Wednesday, 22nd Jul 2026 20:55 by Olle Soderholm With three new players in and the talk being they are all wingers - the Indy take a look at these three exciting additions to a squad that Vitor Matos should be rather pleased about. And wingers ? Not so sure overall. Swansea City have already signed one natural winger, and with two more arrivals incoming it's time to take a look at these players — where they might fit in, how they differ from what the Swans have and what their strengths are. But first, let's establish what we already have. Last season Swansea had 5 proper wingers who played at least 5 league games: Ronald Pereira — 45 games (35 started), 4 goals and 5 assists The product return was very poor for all of these players, especially with forty five appearances played by Ronald and forty four by Eom. Manuel Benson completely flopped at Swansea and became a real problem contractually to move on, eventually he did and Gustavo Nunes despite the fanfare displayed very little. Melker Widell also played out wide on a couple of occasions, but is more of a central midfielder; either way he only contributed 1 assist. (Stoke away and what a cracking goal it was by Vipotnik) Going into this season, without any signings we have Ronald, Eom, Inoussa and potentially Cameron Congreve, who contributed 3 goals and 7 assists across 34 games for Dundee FC (you can read more about Congreve in a scout report from earlier this season). This area needs strengthening, which is exactly what we're doing. I would argue our wingers were one of our weakest areas last season, perhaps together with right back. Ronald had the most goal contributions with 9, which is pretty good, but most fans would agree that he is pretty wasteful offensively, although he is a great presser. A Swansea City winger under Vitor Matos needs to be able to press to fit into the system, but it's clear, both to me and judging by the profiles we've targeted, that we are looking for more creative wingers, and especially ones who contribute points. Let's run through the players Swansea have signed pending one international clearanance. ⚽️ Moussa Kounfolo Yeo, 22 years old, right footed (5M) amortised payments, senior Mali call up. I don't think Yeo (below) is here for his goals, however — he is here to provide creativity and energy. He is very good in 1-on-1s, which is something we are severely lacking. Statistically, Inoussa was our best dribbler last season, and Yeo brings that same level of dribbling prowess. He averages over 2 completed dribbles per game with a success rate above 50%. These are good stats, and watching him play it is obvious he is very talented. He can go both left and right and looks slightly unorthodox — very technical, quick on the turn and good in tight spaces. The only potential concern for him is adapting to the pace of play and physicality of the Championship, but Yeo has actually played at a higher level than most of our players. Last season, he played 8 games (4 started) in the Europa League, scoring against Aston Villa and providing an assist against Ferencváros. Yeo can also play multiple positions, but prefers to be deployed on the left or centrally. I believe he will be used across the entire front four this season. ![]() ⚽️ Elijah Just, 26 years old, left footed (5-6M) amortised payments, full New Zealand international. Marko Stamenic's fellow New Zealander Elijah Just was born in Palmerston North and spent most of his career in New Zealand and Denmark before joining Motherwell in 2025. He had a good campaign last season, scoring 7 goals and providing 7 assists across 35 games in the SPL. But his true breakout came at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored a brace against Iran and the All Whites' only goal against Belgium — 3 goals in 3 games on your World Cup debut, and fine goals at that, including two brilliant half-volleys. Just (below) is now at the Austrian training camp with Swansea for a reported fee of over £5 million, and it's quite obvious where he'd fit in. Elijah Just fits the profile of the goal-scoring winger we need. He is, like Yeo, very flexible positionally, having played on the right, left and as a number 10 for Motherwell last season. I think he would probably play on the right or through the middle at Swansea, as our left side is quickly becoming really stacked. Just is not the best 1-on-1 attacker, but is rather a very diverse goal scorer who has showcased the ability to score with both feet. He is in superb form at the moment, but as with all World Cup standouts you must wonder if he is slightly overpriced. The reported fee has made him Motherwell's most expensive sale of all time. ![]() ⚽️ Joseph Opoku, 20 years old, left footed (5M) amortised payments, senior Ghana international. ![]() ⚽️ How do they compare? ![]() *Creative winger with good delivery: Eom Ji-Sung and Cameron Congreve. *Creative winger with a goal threat: Zedaine Inoussa (who has proved himself in the Allsvenskan as a good goal threat) and Moussa Yeo, the former needs to lose a bit of timber and regain his confidence. Potential out-and-out goal scorers: Elijah Just and Joseph Opoku; potentially Ronald, but he excels more in pressing and defensive contributions. Fans very frustrated in him with limited attacking threat over the chances he is presented with. ![]() All in all, I think these players should in theory cover most of our needs, but as we all know, some of them are unlikely to hit the ground running. I'm not certain everyone will stay either — it's quite possible that any pick from what we have goes out on loan or is sold, so we will have to keep our eyes and ears open. Nevertheless, I think the recruitment team has done a good job — we should have all offensive areas covered. An exciting season lies ahead! ![]() Follow the Indy on X ![]() ![]() ⚽️ CyberSmile BEAT the online cowards Assessments on prices are not exact, they are based on current but very close speculation, we will update these as we get confirmation.
