Despite reports of André Almeida and Ousseynou Fall Seck who are both midfielders being a long way off signing for the Swans (treat that with caution) a player did pass a medical on Wednesday afternoon. We reported this yesterday on our football forum and at the time the easiest answer could be that Ross Stewart has signed as a free agent. Well, now he has.

Vitor Matos is pressing very hard to finalise Andre Almeida from Valencia which has been fluctuating but now we have to accept he isn’t going to come to west Wales as it stands. Hence the caution on comments from elsewhere, you can’t be a long way off and refuse to come to the club at the same time. He isn’t coming to Swansea as of this morning in any event. The club haven’t given up but it’s a distant hope as it stands. Most people do grasp the ever changing dynamic in any transfer window, some won’t, or can’t. These talks and the people involved change and change again with news yesterday Almeida would come to Swansea but only on loan ‘to help his club out’ (hence a medical being planned) So that seems to be Vitor’s alternative, Reports also stated that Almeida is training alone away from his teammates at the behest of Valencia. There seems to be much more regards his situation in Spain that we don’t know about.

What we do know is that head coach Vitor Matos is extremely reluctant to bring in loan players preferring a dedicated squad, as he said last night at the fans forum, “Every player who puts the shirt understands there’s a commitment and that’s a non negotiable thing, And that’s effort and character” We know from conversations last season that Matos doesn’t entirely believe this can be achieved with a young loan player. The loan signing of left back Tiago Parente from Benfica came with an option to buy and that was something Vitor insisted on. Remember, his words above. We really do agree with him, a season loan without at least an option to buy could see the club with some of the issues from last the last campaign.

Will Vitor acquiesce and agree on this occasion the player can only be obtainable on loan ?

With Ross Stewart over the line and many Swansea City followers still in two minds over this deal, the club has three strikers at their disposal going into the League cup clash on Saturday. Quite a change from recent times. His injury record is below. The name Zān Vipotnik will surface again now for sure. CEO Tom Gorringe stated last night that the club ‘doesn’t need to sell any player’ at the moment which is reassuring but there was a caveat that money is always welcome. The rumours of him going to Southampton didn’t seem to match up with those mentioning it was happening, the only reason Zān would go to a club like that would be money and from what we all have seen he doesn’t seem to be entirely motivated by that. He is described as a true gent by the club and transferring to Southampton seems to be a sideways move. However, the Saints are locked in talks for the transfer of Shea Charles to Fulham with a twenty five million pound new bid on the table from the Cottagers. That money could help them.

The good thing about this transfer window of course has been the players the Swans have recruited, and many of the clubs positions are now covered with options all round. The announcement of Ross Stewart will be along shortly, the cover for the wings seems to be Eom and Ronald who last season were a go to for Matos as first choices regularly. Joseph Opoku has a number of arrows to his bow as has Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo enjoys the right wing spot but he can play on the left. It makes you wonder if there will be changes to what Swans fans will see for next weeks game at Stoke City. Josh Key and the aforementioned Parente should be on the bench or maybe even start that will depend on the value Matos places on the game this weekend. He has suggested he hasn’t got a best eleven but a squad that will influence his choices in a very fluid 433. There are injuries to avoid going into the league season, Josh Tymon we know has had attention after a knock last Saturday against CD Leganés but with so many choices for Vitor it’s a very hard line up to predict.

There is still a high expectation that Ousseynou Fall Seck will join the Swans, there has been some mention of him also being a long way off, we understand it is more about smoothing over details that have surfaced over the past forty eight hours. Despite that it seems a few clubs are trying to jeopardise the deal, this should be sorted out either way by early next week.
