Ablett set to return to the game with Ipswich

Former manager Gary Ablett looks set to join Championship outfit Ipswich Town as a coach. Ablett was relieved of his duties at Edgeley Park during the summer following the takeover of the club by the '2015 Consortium'.

His managerial reign at Edgeley Park was of course fairly disastrous, as he oversaw our relegation to League Two in a season that saw us win just 5 League matches, although our failure can also be attributed to forces out of his hands as we were in administration for the whole of his tenure and therefore he had to operate things with limited resources. Even a great manager like Jose Mourinho would have struggled to put together a successful team with the situation Ablett had been put in at Edgeley Park.

Despite the setback to his managerial career whilst in charge of the Hatters, Ablett was keen to get back into work as soon as possible and he now looks set to take up a coaching role at Portman Road after being offered the job by Roy Keane. The 44-year-old scouser has been offered the position following the departure of Ian McParland.

Ablett was with the Town squad at Newmarket last night as they won their first pre-season friendly 9-1 and manager Keane is hopeful that a deal can be completed soon.
