What Becomes Of The Broken Barted
What Becomes Of The Broken Barted

Mystery surrounds the future of Polish Goalkeeper Bart Bialkowski at St Mary's , a week or so ago he was quoted in the Daily Echo as "looking forward to coming back to Southampton and signing the contract offered to him" but since then there has been nothing from the club about the situation.

There has however been unconfirmed press reports that Bialkowski had been offered the first team spot at Portugese club Braga, but has failed a medical, but apart from that silence from all parties.

To lose Bart would be a shame, a few of years ago most Saints supporters would have predicted great things for him, he came in for the at the time despised Kelvin Davis and put in a string of great performances to help drag Saints into the play offs, but you always had the feeling that George Burley had something against the Pole and to be quite blunt at the start of the 2007/08 season he was hung out to dry by the Scots manager and his confidence was shot to pieces.

But that wasnt the end of him and last term he came back into the side and looked the part once again and there were many who felt he did not deserve to be dropped, it was also good for Kelvin, who under pressure for his place put in his own best spell for the club on his return.

The luxury of having two goalkeepers pushing each other for the first team jersey looked like only being good for Saints, however its no surprise that Bart could be lured away, he has just turned 23 and he will know its time he got in an extended run of first team games, he must feel that he is not going to get that with Saints and the chances are that Kelvin could have at least two years left, probably more and Bart just doesnt have that time to play second fiddle any more.

Perhaps if he does leave on good thing may come of it, Tommy Forecast since his arrival two years ago, with the reputation of a great up and coming keeper has gone backwards, we can cope with him as the number two and perhaps that will give him the confidence to start fulfilling his potential.
