QPR v Scunthorpe Betting Preview
QPR v Scunthorpe Betting Preview
Friday, 20th Aug 2010 17:21 by Brian Power and Andy Hillman

The boys are back to preview our Saturday fixture against Scunthorpe United.

A couple of winners dotted around the LFW coupon last week. Andy scooped £27.50 for backing Norwich to win at Scunthorpe and was only let down by West Ham in a four fold accumulator that would have returned big numbers had it come in. A £30 loss on the other bets means he's down £2.50 for last weekend, but still in a £15 profit so far. Brian got £10 for a non-runner at Newmarket but lost £40 elsewhere so he's down £46 and that may have something to do with him getting straight back on the horse and submitting copy and tips from his annual holiday today. Many thanks to Brian for that.

Yes I am off this week but due to modern technology and the marvellous i-phone I have put something together. So we are looking to win our first three league games for the first time in 60 odd years we play Scunthorpe and it all points to a home win but this is Rangers we are talking about so don't rule out an away win. I am going for a bit of value for first goal and a narrow win for us. I will also go for my normal footie acca. In the racing world I will go for Joburg to win 3.10 at Sandown for Lady Herres. Tarabet to follow up last weeks win and take the 3.45.

For the weekend:

£7.50 QPR to beat Scunthorpe 2-1

£5 first scorer Faurlin 20/1

£5 win Joburg Sandown 3.10

£5 win Tarabet 3.45 Sandown

£2.50 trebles and acca

Huddersfield Rotherham Milton Keynes Plymouth

£15 arsenal v Blackpool over 3.5 goals. 6/5.

Well in time honoured fashion, QPR properly screwed up my bets again last week. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll quite happily lose £15 every week if it means that QPR win 3-0 away from home every time, but it reinforces my assertion that betting on your own team is never a clever idea.

But, this IS a QPR betting column, and so we need to look at QPR’s odds for the weekend. And I see a third win in a row for QPR, who are available at 1/2 across the board against Scunthorpe. But there’s not an awful lot of value in a straight win, so we may need to be creative in the betting. I don’t think that QPR will concede, so looking at a ‘win to nil’ or ‘QPR to not concede’ market, I’ve found on Bet365 a market for ‘Only one team to score, QPR’, which is a bit of a mouthful, but the odds are currently 13/10 – that’s better than evens for a QPR win with a clean sheet – that’s got to be worth £10 of anyone’s money.

In the first goal scorer market, you can get around 6’s across the board for both Taarabt and Mackie first goal scorers. Taarabt is actually at 2/1 to score at anytime with Boylesport, so I’m sticking a fiver on Mackie first goal scorer @ 13/2 on Coral, and a fiver on Taarabt to score at any time @ 2/1

Finally, I always do a weekend accumulator, and this week I’ve gone for a five-fold of Arsenal, QPR (I know…), Cardiff, Chelsea and NOT Millwall (Befair allows to back both the Leeds win and draw in the same accumulator). The odds on that are 5.43.

For the Weekend:

QPR win to nil - £10 @ 13/10

Mackie to Score first - £5 @ 13/2

Taarabt to score at any time - £5 @ 2/1

Fivefold accumulator – Arsenal, QPR, Cardiff, Chelsea, NOT Millwall - £10 @ 5.43
