Russell Martin : We were dominant with serious courage
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2022 10:00 by Keith Haynes

Russell Martin has made it clear his squad which is thin on the ground at present need, and will get players in before the end of the transfer window. However last nights performance in the championship was extremely positive. And despite a variety of spin put on his recent comments he is confident that the end of the window will see the swans in a more comfortable position.

On last nights determined and resilient display in west London Martin was extremely pleased. The loss of Flynn Downes for Saturdays trip to Hull City is a huge blow but at least the swans will more than likely see the return of Olivier Ntcham, after he took a kick on Saturday against Preston.

Reflecting on the squads current situation and excellent change of form Martin stated last night “We had a couple of scary moments against a team that are in really good form, but I thought they were great. I'm really proud of the team," he said. “I asked them to come here and show courage and be the team we want to be, and they did that. We were dominant for large periods on a pitch that has not been cut or watered. It's the opposition's prerogative. But the boys showed some serious courage. Good mentality."

Serious courage as the swans go toe to toe with QPR

Beaming with pride on a plan coming together Martin continued “I’m really proud of the team. We asked them to come here and show courage and be the team we want to be and we did that,” he said. We went toe to toe and were dominant for large periods on a difficult pitch. I thought the boys showed some serious courage and showed good mentality. There was a good intensity to the game and with a bit more quality in the final third I think we come away with three points, but it’s back to back clean sheets and I think we got the least we deserved tonight for the amount of character we showed. Some of the bravery to play the way they did was incredible and it’s a good point for us.”

It’s been an excellent ten days for the swans taking five points from nine, and two of those games have been away. It surely now signals an upturn in form that all swans fans have been hoping for this season.
