Swansea City v Sheffield Wednesday Big Game Countdown
Wednesday, 25th Nov 2020 15:34 by Steph Thomas from The Liberty Stadium

A win tonight for the swans will see them firmly cement themselves in to the top six of the championship, and if augers well results wise in to third place. It’s a big game with plenty riding on it.

Steve Cooper has remained coy about his options for tonight’s game with Andre Ayew and and Marc Guehi still only fifty fifty to appear in the starting eleven. Saturdays side featured Liam Cullen with a fluid midfield winning the game for the swans. Cullen had chances too, but will Cooper hand him another game in the white shirt or will he risk Ayew ? With lots more games between tonight and the end of the year to come it wouldn’t surprise us here if this game has come too early for Ayew and Guehi. Cooper clearly has confidence in his entire squad which is reassuring, although Ryan Manning is yet to feature in a starting eleven.

Ryan Manning yet to start for Swansea City

Sheffield Wednesday are in 23rd spot in the table, ahead of Derby County on goal difference on 6 points - as opposed to Swansea’s 22. Had it not been for the 6 point deduction from last season they could have found themselves in 20th spot tonight. Pulis’s Wednesday will be without Josh Windass for their next three matches and Jack Marriott for the next six-to-seven weeks, if he returns to Hillsborough at all. That leaves just Jordan Rhodes, Callum Paterson and Elias Kachunga as the Pulis’s senior options at the top of the pitch — with only the former deemed as a specialist centre-forward, judging by the Owls boss’s comments last week. But out of adversity comes opportunity, or so they say. And, should that be the case, one of Wednesday’s forgotten summer signings could be a beneficiary.

Korede Adedoyin joined the Owls having impressed on trial after his Everton deal expired, but has yet to make a first-team matchday squad. His Hillsborough career has instead commenced in the Under-23s, where registration issues and a three-match suspension have hindered Adedoyin’s progress. But it is already evident that, in the 20-year-old, Wednesday could have a talented young player on their hands. As well as being quick, strong and close to six feet in height, Adedoyin boasts great balance, a skilful pair of feet and a prolific goalscoring record from his time in Everton’s youth set-up.

Pulis went defensive at Preston

Wednesday lined up in a 4-5-1 shape in Pulis' first match in charge at Preston last weekend. Their game plan was to sit back and hit Preston on the counter attack with the pace in the wide areas of Moses Odubajo and Adam Reach but Josh Windass' red card early on changed the whole complexion of the contest.
