Swans in late drama : What a kick in the head for Phil Parkinson EXC pics Saturday, 20th Dec 2025 11:17 by Liam Walters It wasn’t the prettiest of games at the Swansea.com last night but it had everything for the football neutral in the first north v south high level competitive fixture of this season. And if anyone wants the proof the goals alone will tell you a story. At last Swansea City have been getting the kind of luck which has embraced Coventry City this season. Not in the fifty/fifty department when the ball is loose but in the calamity compilation as illustrated by the winning goal of the evening. Before that we had seen a perfectly placed Cameron Burgess header go flying into his own net and a Zān Vipotnik shot which deflected across the Wrexham goal to equalise. The winning goal on ninety minutes will haunt Wrexham keeper, Arthur Okonkwo for days to come as Adam Idah sealed the game for the Swans. In weather best suited to any member of the anatidai family this game not only had the driving rain and swirling wind it included the ‘more than unacceptable’ refereeing of Oliver Langford where he missed clear fouls and strolled around the pitch like a pantomime queen. Missing a clear kick to the head of Ronald by none other than James McClean, Langford had long decided that both Gonçalo Franco and Ronald wouldn’t get anything from him in this game. Both players an embarrassment to themselves the club and the fans. Their theatrics and diving has no place at our club. As many stated it’s only when a real foul is committed that you find out if your play acting beforehand has any impact on future decisions. Vitor Matos has to stop this pathetic acting from both players as it is visibly affecting their game with their minds on cheating and not playing football. It is to the detriment of the team and the credibility of Vitor Matos. It has to stop. When proper decisions have to be made Langford either ran away shaking his head or didn’t see them. Another shocking example of alleged impartiality. On the goals, Cameron Burgess isn’t having the best of seasons, at least in front of his own goal, excuse the pun. He does have the best club figures for clearances and defensive tackles but they go relatively unnoticed when you are scoring own goals, making poor passes that lead to goals and generally as we have been pointing out all season extremely suspect when on the ball. All that aside the best team won this game. The Swans having more of an edge in the tackles that were legal, and more inventiveness in their quick passing and eye for a shot. What was lacking at times was a clear defined plan with both left and right defensive positions exposed as we saw for the first Wrexham goal. Ryan Longman crossing in space for Burgess to head the ball (wrong footed) for the opener. This detail when defending is still to be managed by Vitor Matos. With what looked more like a mob of coaches after a near month of a lack of personnel to guide him, Matos had at last achieved his desired coaches plus one more in Ryan Maye. He did his coaching badges alongside Vitor at the FAW ( Football Association of Wales) With news of Joe Allen and Leon Britton staying on for now thats’s one hell of a posse to lean on. We saw a more positive Inoussa (below) in this game, willing to open up his legs in the first half and display his superior pace. He also took on players and looked better when he switched wings with Ronald. More game time will result in a better and more confident player. ![]() Adam Idah (below) was at last in the right place at the right time to score the winner and congratulations to him. He most certainly doesn’t put full effort into most things he does on the pitch but if he wants more moments like that then effort and lots more of it is required. ![]() On his goal Idah said post match, “It’s an unbelievable feeling, especially in a game like that. To get a 90th minute goal is amazing, but to do it in a game like that was just amazing. The fans were massive, when you have the support like that it makes such a big difference for us because when you have the small details – where someone makes a tackle or wins a throw-in – they get behind those moments and really lift the team. They were amazing, they have been brilliant all season, they have stuck with us through some tough spells” With the Swans attendances averaging around nineteen thousand over the last three home games things in that respect are looking up. As. Vitor stated after the game, “Then there were two goals that are typical derby goals, but were right there where we need to be and when you are you sometimes get the reward. We kept pushing. The feeling we all had on the pitch was just amazing, these are the moments. We can say the turnaround on the pitch started in the stands.” ⚽️ Swans :Lawrence Vigouroux 6 Ethan Galbraith 8 Ben Cabango 8 (c), Cameron Burgess 6Josh Tymon 6 Marko Stamenic 6 (Jay Fulton 79) 6 Gonçalo Franco 5 (Malick Yalcouye 79) 6 Melker Widell 6 (Liam Cullen 59) 6 Ronald 5 Zeidane Inoussa 6 (Jisung Eom 59) 6 Zan Vipotnik 7 (Adam Idah 81) 7 Substitutes: Not used.
