Nothing on the rumour mill so I thought a good topic for discussion. He was the first name on Cooper's team sheet and was his club captain. 5 million would probably do it ?
Sad news but in all reality this has been coming since the powers that be in Cardiff wanted a token Sri Lanka test match every few years to grant it test match status.
I feel very sorry for the balconiers who worked so hard to keep at least one or two first class matches at St Helens - it’s a bit of a betrayal but in truth this was always going to happen.
It’s nothing to do with us anymore- I wish nothing but misfortune of the committee.
A good read. I’ve been very impressed by him and think it’s time to remove his (so called by some) Matt Grimes “buoyancy aid”. He’s a fierce competitor and we just don’t have enough of those at present
I know I marked him down on Saturday but then I saw this . Something akin to what Maradona was doing in his heyday. I’m not saying he’s as good as Maradona - but I couldn’t help but be taken back to the 1986 World Cup finals . I’m sure he did this to England more than once in the quarter finals :-
Very intense and moving programme showing real-time footage in the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Centre attack.
Compulsive viewing - some amazing stories from Firemen, Ambulance first responders Police and members of the public - some who were on the street when it happened and those who survived although trapped inside - some as far as 80 floors up. Chilling but incredible.
I must say I’ve been really impressed by Joel Piroe. Strong, athletic, always looking to link play and crucially coming back to press opposition midfielders when ours are closing in (saw this a few times and ended up turning over their ball or making them rush their play).
But his technical ability and accuracy on goal (9 shots maybe just one off target in the Reading and BC games )? Contrast that with his counterparts and predecessors and he looks far more clinical than most (Michu excepted). I think he adds so much more than Ayew who was a great player for us and a Talisman) - he drags people all over the place and his finishing is emphatic - the goal on Friday night was that of a man who wasn’t going to be denied. His work rate off the ball should have won him MOM on Friday - he ran himself into the ground for his manager and his team mates.
I’m going to stick my neck out and say that if he remains fit he’ll break the 20 goals barrier this season. If I was Martin I’d give him a massive boost by handing him the no.9 jersey - I think in response of that kind of a vote of confidence would again be to do his damndest to live up to that label. Even if we get Gray I think Piroe should have it. He’s an instinctive 9, and at 22 has got all the tools to do very well in the game. It’s fair to say I’m very very excited at what he could do for us over the course of this season. Thoughts ?
May as well keep an eye on it. Good coverage on the WM and some nice mentions of our style and success on Call Rob. BBC Wales “news magazine” programme’s sports bulletin - just the darts and some PL news but no mention of the Swans.
"Swansea City have some really talented players, notably Andre Ayew, Connor Roberts and Marc Guehi. But their squad isn't as strong as Cardiff's. Not by any stretch of the imagination."
His imagination?? This man is supposed to be journalist??? They are stronger in one area and that's up front but they can't even give him any service. And he's not the type of forward we'd ever buy anyway? Bizzaro from Abandonallhope.
I started writing this on the match thread but thought this deserved a thread of its own. I’ve just seen the highlights of the game yesterday and as some had already hinted he was definitely man of the match.
I remember him last season stuttering a little when he got to the halfway line And looking a little lost when the left winger got in his way. Even then though it was evident that he had the best cross at the club, very good at delivering the ball into danger areas on a very consistent basis. If we had Llorente last season he would have lapped up that service and with his heading ability would have scored a hatful.
Now watching the highlights back in the bask of the post victorious glow it was a joy watching him own the entirety of his side of the pitch. Dominant in both defence and attack he’d already caused problems for Preston before his harshly disallowed goal and his ball into the box for the winner was sublime. He played with an air of confidence and authority which was lovely to see.
And that’s not all - his physicality being built like a tank and bravery means he never shirks tackles and Is a proper team player. I know we’ve questioned the Transfer dealings and lack of any real gems coming in but Bidwell is beginning to show that as a free transfer he’s not only now one of the first name on the team sheet (I know every other LB has gone but Naughton can definitely play there) but proving himself one of our best signings over the last few seasons. It puts undue pressure on him now but I hope one day our fans will think of his signing as Rangel - esque - I’m going to get slaughtered for that but it’s certainly a possibility for the future if he carries on his consistent level of performance that he’s showing.
Could he be the best left wing back in the division - quite possibly. I even think he his character and leadership qualities could make him a prospective future Swans captain. But for now I’d just like to say a massive “well done” to him and wish him an excellent and injury free season. Any thoughts?
P.S. I actually loved his cynical take down of the Bristol City player away to them last year. It was a trip on half way but if he’d got past him we were in trouble. Shades of Tommy Smith lol?
... did anyone else on here go to the 50th Anniversary fireworks display on the beach? Seem to be a good few thousand down there and the display was superb (even after a 25 minute pause due to a malfunction). Hope they figure a way to charge a minimal amount and put them on down there every year from now on.
I must say though I was surprised by the amount of people bringing their dogs though
I looked on the site and even though I’m an ST holder with JA membership it still quoted me 39 pounds. Fancy going on the train , TrainSplit returns from 103 pounds. If 4 go do can you get a family ticket (4 for the price of 3)?
